anybody? I have followed the instructions to a T and am stuck on "The Device Cannot Start"

Try this link. It will allow you to Root your phone and install Behold 2 1.6 No TouchWhiz with Busybox. Please read from beginning to end. I hope it helps.

And better yet, head over here:

http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-behold-2/66867-how-flash-using-odin.html

If the link does not work, cut and paste please.

the first link is the rom I want to install. He pulled it though. THe second link does not work even cutting a pasting it into the browser. Also to flash using ODIN I still have to Root the phone and that is not even working. Never had this much trouble with any phone before.

Actually you are mistaken. You do not root before you can Odin! In fact you will gain root from it if you flash any of bh_mans roms or if you Odin flash one of his rooted kernels, but you don't root first!

Just tried to flash the ROM with ODIN and it says please connect phone when i hit start :( Phone is sitting on download function mode. Its not gonna work if the driver cannot start!!! Im not sure what to do.

The ROM's kernel is Rooted. Try a different USB port. Make sure USB debugging is enabled.
Lastly, try the thread reading "(Sticky) How to flash using ODIN"

USB debugging mode is on. Which driver should be used. Here is what I have tried.
I removed all drivers and rebooted the PC.
I installed the driver that is included with the SDK(Device Cannot start)
I Installed the driver directly from samsung(Device cannot start)
I installed the driver from the ODIN package(Device cannot start)
I installed the driver from the Behold II driver from this site(device cannot start)
I am unclear on exactly which driver I should be using.

I have tried these drivers 1 by 1 and keep getting cannot starts.

Ouch, I'm out of ideas. I've had zero problems since the beginning. Lucky me I guess. Just hang tight, someone here will shed some light about your problem. Start with listing your OS Type and version. Mine is Windows 7 32-Bit. I'm using the original USB-to-Micro USB cable that came with the phone. PC detects my phone soon as I plug it in. After that, everything just fell in place. Good luck.

Try this link for USB drivers: http://www.junefabrics.com/bin2/SamsungUsbBehold.zip

Windows XP service pack 3

Using a brand new samsung data cable bought today.
Have tried 4 different usb ports. I am getting ready to try it on a 32 bit windows 7 machine and see what happens.

no dice on the windows 7 32 it machine. I plugged the phone in and it started to install drivers. It installed a few of the drivers but the rest failed.

I have been trying to do this. I type in adb devices I get SGH T939 device. I'm new to this so I didn't know if that was right or not as I know I'm supposed to see a serial number.

I understand your frustration. Im going through the same thing, and I've gotten it to work in the past, its just the computer does not detect my device properly. I tried changing computers and it worked for a while but then the second computer doesntt even acknowledgme its even connected sometimes, or it shows device as offline or in device management says device failed ti start.. I suspect for me it has something to do with the phones usb port..

I noticed this too, I pushed it both ways, as Mms.apk, and TwMms.apk, and I couldn't send messages, only receive until I downloaded handcent. I wiped the data and everything, still no go. I prefer handcent anyway, which I why I replaced the original TwMms. so I'm not complaining or anything. ;)

It's because you have a blank message centre. enter +12063130004 in the new TwMms.apk in settings in the blank message centre field

Sometimes from a soft reboot the ADB hangs and says it's Off line... This is due to the init.rc file in the ramdisk of the boot.img....... Not only does it initialize the init.rc, but there is a fota_init.rc that also takes place.. This was the issue getting ADB even working at Boot to begin with!

If you get an Offline status from ADB Shell, Just unplug the USB & wait like 10 seconds, then Plug back in the USB.. more-less, More Kernel modding underway..

Plus, I'm Happy with all the current Rom's I've put out, so likely I'll start looking into the Recovery & Kernel edits again...

Yeah yeah.... Rambling on I know...

NOOOO!! At least put out another version of Twix with fixes??

did a fresh windows 7 32 bit install. Only thing I had on it was samsung pc studio and it did the same thing telling me the device cannot start. Gues I am going to have to pay someone to put this ROM on my phone.

Next time try this instead.
I'm a Win Mobile hacker & for the life of me, I can't get ADB to work on my computer. I even redid one of my laptops with Win XP SP3. I've read so many posts & tutorials but I must be missing something. Just what is the easiest software to download to my computer to get this to work. does the phone have to be set a certain way. I have had no problem flashing & reflashing, flashing kernels, working in recovery mode & reformatting system & SD card so I must have a mental block on this ADB stuff.

There is a thread for it.Tip try disabling driver signature F8 at boot before installing adb drivers,if you are on Stock rom than get home replacement so you can access real android options,go to "settings","about this phone","additional settings" and uncheck "mass storage only",make sure adb is enabled and you should be good.

I've got the same problem. The phone even says "debugger connected" but when I run ADB from the command prompt, it says no devices found.

I read that adb doesn't work with Win 7 64-bit with the Behold 2. As far as I can tell that's just the case.

Got mine working on Win7 64bit(took me a month of trial and error),just follow the procedure.

My big question is, do I have to use a specific version of the ADB executable? The wiki links to a SDK download file and says I need to use version 1.6. However, the SDK download appears to work differently now - the SDK tools are installed independently of the platform version.

Don't have the Phone Plugged into the Computer when you boot it...

Wait until after you see the Blue Boot Logo ( Samsung ). then plug the usb in for adb to work...

I used 1.5 and it works with 1.6 so no i dont think so,if you managed to install adb drivers correctly than you are almost there.I also had to add C:\AndroidSDK\tools to Environment Variables in System Settings and reeboot-adb will not work without it!You will need to run command prompt as Administrator and change dir to C:\AndroidSDK\.Always install android sdk to that dir and make sure you rename it to C:\AndroidSDK.

I can't seem to get adb to recognize my phone. I just installed take 5 and wanted to add a2sd I got the memory card formatted and wanted to push the bhman file my phone, but I can't get it to work. I rebooted turned off debugging than turned it back on plugged in the usb cable went to cmd typed in adb shell and just got this:

c:\android\tools>adb shell
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found

c:\android\tools>

What am I doing wrong?
