How to train battery properly?

When you first get the phone, what is the first thing you shold do to the battery? I heard you should train it by discharging it fully, then charging it up fully plus a few more hours while phone is off, then repeat that 1 or 2 more times. But I've also heard that bump charging it helpful. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

i think the point of discharging is not to train the battery but the meter on the phone so it reads accurately

No. Although it is still good idea to make sure that the phone has seen the battery at its fullest and its lowest for a proper reading.

I have read that they don't need to be conditioned but their full potential is not realized until they have been through several full discharge cycles but that you don't need to do full discharges to get the job done. You may find that your battery lasts longer after you have had your phone for a week or two compared to the first few charge cycles.

Actually, full discharge discharge on a Li-ion battery is not a good thing, and ought not be done frequently. In it's 9 month life, I've only let this happen three times to the Evo.

For that, we recommend a training sequence of:
- Charge until green light while on
- unplug, power off, re-plug, charge until green light on
- unplug, power on, re-plug, charge until green light on

Until the green light is immediately on between two cycles.
