Help How to turn off the screen when charging & connecting USB

My HTC Hero does not turn off the screen while charging and connecting to PC. I have tried the options like "Develop-Keep wake up",but threr is still a big white charing battery on the screen.
The software is 1.5 version, offical.
Ask for help to turn off the screen.

Yep that works for me too. But just short press, as long press gives you the option to switch off altogether. I have never had a big white charging battery on the screen.

One thought ... is yours a Sprint Hero.
 
Menu/Settings/Applications/Development/Stay Awake.

(Screen will never sleep while charging)

I have that boxed ticked. However the screen will still go to sleep whilst charging if you press the end call button even if this is ticked.
