Root How to Uninstall Font App since the Phone got struck on boot.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME...?
I installed Tamil Unicode Font App on my rooted HTC Wildfire S Phone. That made something wrong with boot. Now the phone struck on booting (i.e showing the Brand name again and again...).

I've already su, busybox, rom toolbox installed on my phone.
How to uninstall Tamil Unicode Font App?
or How to restore fonts on the \system\fonts directory...?

Thanks for your reply, I am not sure whether i have back up or not since i rooted my phone few days back only. I tried to recover from the 'Recovery' option on hboot menu, but the phone displays the caution symbol (phone pic with red triangle). could you explain how to nandroid backup and then restore..?
 
A nandroid backup is basically a backup done through recovery. Usually it's a good idea to make a backup right after rooting in case you come into problems like this one. Than you can restore to the point before you had the problem.
But since it seems you can't even go into recovery, it might not even be helpful.
I'm not sure how to help you now. Hopefully someone with more experience can help you

edit: Looks like your recovery is not working anymore. Try to re-install it by using fastboot

Thanks again for your concern.

I followed your xda link and copied PG76IMG.ZIP (tried both 2 versions) on root of the SD Card and Bootloaded. Now the phone displays as : (for your ref)

I'm really confused what went wrong with device. Did I brick the device?
Is there any other option to update ROM thru PC Interface...?:confused:
 
As Caro said, you need to install it using fastboot, it will not work using the zip file from your sd card. Make sure you delete that file before attempting what is below (adapted from CafeKampuchia's guide on rooting).

You will need SDK tools for Android, Java runtime, and HTC Sync installed on your Windows computer. Install the SDK tools in a directory named something like c:\android. Put the recovery image in this directory, too, not the zip file.

Boot the phone into HBOOT by turning the phone off, removing the battery, replacing the battery then holding down the power key and volume button. After it scans for PG7610.zip, select FASTBOOT and press the power button then connect the USB cable. The word FASTBOOT will change into FASTBOOT USB. If not, then either your USB drivers for the Wildfire S or Android SDK Tools is not installed properly.

Open a command prompt in Windows and navigate to c:\android

Type the following command: fastboot flash recovery [image name.img]. For example:
c:\android\>fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img

Hopefully this will install ClockworkMod recovery.

I successfully installed ClockworkMod recovery 5.0.2.8-marvel.img

Now my phone proceeds to ClockworkMod recovery Menu. It shows more options. What to do next...?

Well you can now make a nandroid backup - choose backup and restore. You can also flash a new ROM from Cwm recovery and also, more importantly for you right now, do a factory reset which will solve your problem (at the expense of lost data).

Power off - remove battery - replace battery - hold down volume and power buttons simultaneously to boot into HBoot. Once in HBoot choose recovery (navigate using the volume key, use the power button to select). Navigate to Factory Reset and select. Reboot. Your phone should boot normally now, you will have lost your data but you will have a usable phone.

Hope this helps.

Yes. I took the nandroid backup. It ran about few minutes and backedup all the files and then I selected 'Factory data wipe/reset' got finished. Then Power down, replaced battery, selected 'Factory Reset' on HBOOT menu as per your instruction. Now the phone booted normal mode but Nothing made difference. That same problem continues. (Brand Name with sound repeates with 15-20 sec intervel).

1). Is it essential to flash new ROM? Then where can i find the update that suites my model?

2). I got some clues in the following thread (that same problem with the device) :

Good!! If your cwm works, then the phone is not lost!!! But you will probably lose all your data :(

No I don't think that RUU is the right one. You went to Wildfire forum whereas your phone is Wildfire S. Make sure you have the right RUU for your phone.
I do believe the only way is to flash a rom. Maybe not a custom one but a stock rom.
go to XDA forums and search for "football htc wildfire RUU". Sorry I'm not giving you the link. I can't find it anymore.
Make sure it's for Marvel and not Marvelc
Then flash it via cwm

Thanks. I'm bit relaxed now after reading your first line. I don't mind losing any data (I have my contacts backup, the only thing i want).

As for installing it, I believe insink gave some instructions

Easy instructions.. download file, find a box (workstation) running windows, run the RUU*.exe file with your phone plugged in via usb... et voila..

Dear Caro,

Thanks for your support...

But Nothing seems to be working for me.

I downloaded the file RUU_Marvel_HTC_Asia_WWE_1.35.707.3. and run it from PC with HTC connected on USB. When proceeding, i Noted that Current Image version on HTC is 2.13.720.1 and asked to update with 1.35.707.3, when clicked 'Update' the phone rebooted (now the phone didn't show brand and sound repeatedly) and after few seconds the following is displayed : (on PC)


ERROR[155]: UNKNOWN ERROR
The Rom Update Utility cannot update your Android phone
Please get the correct ROM Update Utility again.



Can I try any other RUU from FOOTBALL's List. Any Idea? ...
Or Should I flash ROM via cwm...?

It's the same Football's List as i mentioned earlier. Now the thing is, it's an application file(.exe). How can get the ROM.zip out of it...?

Once again I am adapting advice from CafeKampuchia:

Run the RUU until the wizard comes up. While the RUU wizard is open, find the temporary folder it created. (Open Explorer in Windows and type %temp% in the navigation bar.) There will be two folders with long encrypted names. In one of them you will find ROM.zip.

You must not close the wizard - the temp directory will disappear if you do!

Thanks for your reply. Now I managed to get 'rom.zip' from the (%temp% folder) of 'RUU_Marvel_HTC_Asia_WWE_1.35.707.3_Radio_47' and put it in SDCard after renaming into "PG76IMg.ZIP".

Bootloaded on HBOOT, Files Loaded from IMG file succesfully. (With a progress indicator on top right corner).

Now displays the HBOOT Menu as usual.

Could you explain, what to proceed further...

OMG !!!

I Got Back my HTC WildFire S, after 8 days of hopeless and restless !!.

But I never lost the confidence and keep trying (on the right track).

The method which helped me to clear the problem is here :

But i Forgot from where and how i managed to get the link since i was searching all over the net.

and followed the instructions simply.

and it worked !

If anybody got boot looped, i would recommend this one is perfect method and also very very easy.

Now my HTC Wildfire S is working perfectly.
(Damn i will never install that Font App again)

Anyway thanks to all who supported me......

Note : If anybody wants to know more step by step details, I can certainly help. (post it here)

Certainly. It was a nightmare to get back the device.
I was just playfully installed that Tamil Unicode Font app to support my local language on msg, mail and social networking sites, which resulted causing the device to work. Since i'm having some knowledge of both hardware and software (Studied Comp Sci & Eng in 1990 and now in other field), I managed to over come the hurdle. I really tried all the methods without causing the device.

Before you do anything else make a nandroid backup of your existing system and save a copy to your computer. Do this in CWM recovery: choose backup/restore >backup.

Having created the nadroid backup, you need to get the right files.

CyanogenMod itself:Downloads - cm7-wildfire-s - Unofficial Cyanogenmod 7 port for HTC Wildfire S - Google Project Hosting

the one at the top, June 16, is the latest.

Google 'gapps': http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version/Google_Apps download the one for CyanogenMod 7, 20110828

Put these files at the root of your sd card.

When you are ready, boot your phone into CWM recovery.

Select Factory reset/wipe
Select Wipe cache

Then go to Advanced and choose 'Wipe dalvik cache'

When you've done all that, select 'Install zip from sd card' - it will ask you to select the file you want to install so scroll down to the cyanogenmod zip file and, after selecting it, scroll through all the 'no' options till you get to 'Yes' and select - it will go ahead and install. When it has finished , go back to 'Install zip from sd card' and repeat the process for the gapps zip file.

When these two are successfully installed go back up the menu to 'Reboot system now'. Now hold your breath and wait for the jolly android robot to skateboard onto the black screen :)

Apparently very unlikely with an S-ON phone. You should always be able to get back to recovery and restore your nandroid backup if the worst comes to the worst.

Search on YouTube for some video guides - there are a few - to help familiarise yourself with the process and read this:[TUT][NOOBS] Step by Step guide to installing CM7 - xda-developers which is a bit more detailed than what I wrote above. Follow the steps precisely and you should be OK.
