Root [how to]unlock, install recovery, and root with htcdev

I downloaded the driver, now ima go figure out how i'm able to install it

if you were able to download from that link, all you need to do is right click on that, and then run as admin,if your version of windows permits that.

make sure usb debug is enabled and plug the phone in when instructed.

if you were unable to download from the link i just gave you, here you go:

PD9810000_Ace_Sense30_S_hboot_2.00.0029.exe

PD9810000_Ace_htcdev_hboot_2.00.0029_build_3.12.405.1.zip

the first is a .exe that you can install as i just described- run as admin on your PC.

the .exe files can be finicky,so if you have trouble getting it to work, just download the second one, wich is a .zip file.

the .zip can be renamed to "PD98IMG" (no quotes) and placed on the root of your FAT32 formatted sd card. then boot to hboot via power/vol down, and the phone should find the file, and ask you to update. allow the update, and then let the phone reboot. immediately remove PD98IMG from your sd card,as it can casue troubles later on if you need to get to recovery or fastboot.

hope that helps. :)

Error 190: ROM IS NOT UPDATED

Your ROM version is not the latest verion.
Please upgrade to 3.12.405.1 to apply this RUU to be able to unlock your bootloader.

On your phone, go to menu>settings>about phone>software updates>check now.
After you have updated, please run the RUU again to upgrade your HBOOT to unlock your phone. We apologize for the inconvenience.

i tried updating but there's none available...

as i said above, the .exe files can be finicky.

its prolly confused by the fact that your build is .1 higher(.2 vs .1)

download from the other link, then try it from the sd card.

No image/wrong image found when trying through sdcard, but that might be because my sdcard is not a fat32 formatted?

I renamed the file in .zip into "hboot_7230_Ace_2.00.0029_20111222.img", since it has no ".img" (idk if that's required or not, just thought it could work..) i'ma try it right away

*didn't change anything, it just won't work..

that is correct. reformat to FAT32

no,you cant mess with anything inside the .zip file. besides being potentially dangerous if it did flash(),it wont flash,as that breaks htc's signiture

how do i reformat to fat32

found it! now i'll make a backup and format it to fat32.
done that it will function correctly?

best way is in a card reader. insert into usb adapter, plug into PC
-back up everything on it,as formatting will wipe it
-right click the drrive in a wondows explorer window that is your sd card
-click format
-uncheck the quick format option,so it does a full format

you can verify if it is FAT or FAT32 or something else,by:
-right click sd card drive
-click properties

Finally! update was successfull after formatting.

now there's a pink bar with 'locked' on the fastboot, i'll try to figure the rest out.

answered in your other thread: http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/705912-need-help-root-my-phone.html

lets keep discussion there,so as to keep this one from becoming un-neccessarily long and hard to search. :)

I get a very different md5 checksum for the ACE recovery. Has it been updated, is the md5 checker I'm using wrong, or should I ignore and continue? I've re-downloaded and got the same results.

apparently the md5 i listed above was for the initial download, wich contained some other things :o

the version i uploadeded,has this md5:
PD98IMG_ace_recovery_ext_4.zip fc0f377f7d91ce5dc1f415f7bc72284d

i just downloaded it and double checked. if your zip file download matches that, you should be good to go.

the image inside should have an md5 of: 042e9fa838521592ec9224bfb27df52a

sorry for the mixup :o

I messed up, I managed to root my htc desire hd (had no internet for like 2 weeks)
and I downloaded a custom rom.
I made a backup of my stock, but I accidently wiped my sdcard, so now i lost the stock...
I installed the rom, (from xda, 1st last version, .15 if i'm right) but when i reboot after installation, the screen turns white with HTC displayed in grassgreen color.
Now, I lost my backup and this rom (and several others from the same developer) aren't working for my phone for some reason.

basically i just don't have a rom installed, and i don't know how to fix this.

I tried to download a custom ROM and i got stuck in a boot loop. I've been trying to connect the phone with usb but it is not being recognized to put the boot.img on with fastboot. Am I doing something wrong? I never installed the ace recovery permenatly. my phone has S-ON. Thank you.

you can try these tips to get fastbot working:
troubleshooting connectivity issues:
-try a reboot of the PC
-try different usb cables and ports
-dont use a usb hub
-dont use usb 3.0
-make sure nothing capable of comunicating with the phone is enabled and running. htc sync, pdanet, easy tether, and even itunes have all been known to cause issues.
-windows 8 has been known to have issues. try a windows 7 or older machine

failing the above,
-i use these drivers for fastboot and adb(donwload and run as admin): http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe (mirror)

failing that, try manually updating the drivers in the following manner:
-put the phone in fastboot mode(select fastboot from the hboot menu)
-open device manager on the PC
-plug in phone, watch for it to pop up in device manager.
-update drivers with device manager, pointing the wizard to the extracted
driver download folder from above

note that you can check the connectivity of the phone, and make sure drivers are working by in the following manner:
-open cmd window. change to directory containing adb/fastboot utilities

-adb with the phone in the booted OS,usb debug enabled, enter:
adb devices in a cmd window

-fastboot with phone in fastboot,enter:
fastboot devices in cmd window

in either case,a properly connected phone with working drivers installed should report back the phones serial number.

I have a unlocked HTC Inspire and a dual boot desktop running Ubuntu latest LTE and Win XP Pro 64 bit, can I use the Xp pro and can I skip some of the procedures since it is unlocked? Unlocked with AT&T code. Thanks for any info from a complete noob as for as rooting goes.
