These instructions are 100% courtesy of BriefMobile.com. Go there for full instructions and support!

If you already have DI18 stock ROM on your phone already, skip to “Step 10″

  1. Download Samsung_Mobile_Driver_V1.3.800_For_SPH-d700_Epic_4G.zip
  2. Unzip the file and install the driver
  3. Download Odin3+v1.61andepic.pit.zip
  4. Unzip the file and open up “Odin3+v1.61.exe”
  5. Put your phone into “Download Mode”
    • Pull out battery
    • Put in battery
    • Push and hold “1″ on your keyboard
    • Power on device while holding “1″
  6. Plug your Epic 4G into the computer
  7. Download SPH-D700-DI18-8Gb-REL.tar.md5
  8. Place the file in the “PDA” slot
  9. Start flashing
    • This will reset your phone to default settings
  10. You now have stock DI18 Android 2.1 back on your Epic! Feels good right? ;)
  11. Download update.zip from source
  12. IMPORTANT: Rename the file to “update.zip”
    • If you get an error while flashing, your file might accidentally be named “update.zip.zip” due to Windows’ file renaming system. Just rename it to “update” to make it “update.zip”
  13. Move the file to your SD card on the Epic 4G
    • Plug in device
    • Select “Mass Storage”
    • Drag the “update.zip” into root of your SD card
  14. Boot your device into “Recovery Mode”
    • Pull out battery
    • Put in battery
    • Push and hold the combination of the Volume Down Button, the Camera Button, and the Power Button
  15. Select “apply sdcard:update.zip” from the “Recovery Mode”
    • The “Home” soft key is the select key.
  16. Congratulations! You now have “EB13″ Android 2.2.1 on your Samsung Epic 4G by Sprint!

Ok i have a couple questions.
I am new to android so please go easy on me.
I just got my EPIC today and it is completely stock 2.1 and everything...
If I do this does this in any way root or change anything on the device whereas it would not be service-able by sprint? Or is this simply the same thing Samsung released? But using Odin?
When I plug my epic into my computer with USB debugging and using as a mass storage device it shows me folders but I cannot find anything (on the surface) that seems to be the Sd card? Please help =)

I tried all three methods from the link, and now my phone is 'bricked'. I have also tried all recovery methods mentioned in other threads. No matter what I use or do it fails at

<ID:0/004> param.lfs
<ID:0/004> Complete(Write) operation failed.

This is using DI18 and EP13. I have used every port, different drivers, two different USB cables.

Any help or suggestions?

Download the .tar file again. A long as you can access download mode you are only soft bricked.

So I forgot to mention that I redownloaded both tars twice. I did get it working though, I had to have the battery out while using odin. Now everything is working great! :D

hi I'm new in android. I have some questions, in the step 14 says pull out battery, my questions are:

1.- do it while my phone is turn on ???
2.- what is the purpose of doing this ???
3.- I change my carrier. after I do this, will I need to change again ???

note: my epic already have DI18 and is root

My phone updated OTA last night. Lots of minor changes! A few apps no longer work with 2.2 Froyo unfortunately (..i.e...Shoot Me) without being rooted.
