Root How to update uboot?

Your other option is to update to Nook 1.2 software, then update that.... pretty much the same result. :D
 
It's like a bios update for your computer. It updates some low level functions. I read that it made videos play smoother with the latest test kernels.
 
Where do I find the sources for u-boot.bin?

I'd like to understand then maybe play with what happens at boot time.

This is old stuff and an even newer uboot is already included with every build in the last 4 months.
 
I'm certain that you understand what you are trying to tell us. However,
the phrase "every build" includes the implied object "every build of XXXX".
(It would not surprise me to see "every build of uboot" saying, in fact,
"... uboot sources are included in every build of uboot ..." -- YESSIR. No news there.)

Sorry for the snidely remarks, but I'm frustrated by a couple of technical issues and keep running into

  • answers that are only meaningful to the writer due to jargon use
  • answers that are only meaningful to the writer due to "iceberg syndrome" -- 80% is below the surface in prerequisite knowledge
  • definitions that use the term(s) in question as part of the definition

Since "forget about uboot" doesn't work for you, let me rephrase that.

Every build of any rom based on CM7 that was released in the last 4 months (and every stock B&N rom) does not need updating.

If you're booting your rom off a bootable sdcard, using something in the same time period, you do not want to replace uboot or you'll break the boot menu.

In other words, newer roms have a much-improved boot menu that comes up when the "n" key is pressed. If you replace it you'll break that functionality.
 
... but I want to tinker my boot menu ...

When I power on, I get a brief count-down:
Code: 
3...
2...
1...
{black screen}
boot menu
During the count-down, I can "press any key" to cause the menu to appear.
If the count-down expires, the default boot option happens.

I want to tinker what happens at power on:

  1. I want a longer timer
  2. I want to alter the default boot option


I cannot discover any files to edit and utilities to run that will permit me to make these changes so it looks as though I need to edit the "code."
If someone knows what to edit and which utilities to run, please tell me so that I can stop searching for "the code."
