Root How to upgrade from a HTC Evo 4G from 2.2

So I rooted a long time ago with unrevoked and love the freedom and 2.2. My Evo of late has been acting up of late and I need to upgrade to the latest version.

My questions.

1. What is the best way to upgrade a rooted device?
2. Is there a method I won't lose data?
3. What is the failure rate and will brick my phone?
4. Is there a step by step guide or video?

first of all do not accept any ota's while you are rooted.

all an ota is is just a software upgrade so all you need to do is flash a rom that has the ota cooked in.

right now the og evo has gingerbread. my suggestion is to flash MikG v3.11 [3/9/2012]. it is a much better the stock will ever be.

just skip the rooting section and go to the after root section. it has tons of info including how to make a nandroid backup and how to flash a rom.

once you have the rom flashed then we can talk about flashing radios afterwards.
