Root How to upgrade HTC Desire from Android 2.2.2

Good morning All,

I bought a second hand Desire in mint conditions which comes:
- Unlocked,
- Branded T-Mobile
- Android version: 2.2.2
- Baseband version: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
- Kernel version: 2.6.32.15
- Build number: 2.29.110.6
- Software number: 2.29.110.6
- Browser version: WebKit 3.1

I tried to partition my SD Card on this phone by trying to go into Recovery Mode, but when I select Recovery, the phone starts by displaying the pink round circle (T-Mobile!) and then displays a sign with a mobile phone and a red triangle!

I wonder what is the best upgrade to have on this phone and how to implement it.
One thing I would like to have is Sky Go on the phone which does not seem to be working on rooted phones.

I read a lot of FAQ and guides here on this forum, but I am quite lost.

It would be very helpful if SUroot or Hadron can provide thir input on my issue.

Thanks in advance for your help.

So is it rooted or not?
Sounds like you have no proper recovery like clockwork mod for example. That's why you can't partition using it.

To partition use GParted, it just works, unlike the windows stuff. That will fubar it.

Hi Tyseyh,

Thanks for your input.
I do not know if it is rooted or not. But, I guess it is not.
Is there a way to check if it is?

I read about GParted and will try to do it, but before I would like to know if I need to do other stuff before like upgrading the OS and how!

If you had this phone in your hands, what would you do to get it up to date to the status you would like it to be?

Cheers.

My guess is that it isn't rooted, since you don't have a custom recovery. If you also don't have an app called superuser then I'm sure it isn't rooted. You can partition the card with GParted anyway, but without a ROM that uses the partition that is just a waste of space, so unless you root there's no point.

So the first question is root or not? If Sky Go won't run on a rooted phone then you need to choose (I do not have Sky, so don't know about this). Without root the only option for updating is the 2.3 upgrade.

Hi Hadron,
Thanks a lot for your post.
It is therefore not rooted as I can't see the app superuser.
I think I'll just upgrade it to the 2.3 for the time being.
Do you have a link to the How To upgrade to 2.3 guide?
Cheers

Dear Hadron,
Just to let you know that update went very smoothly.
Thanks a lot for your precious help.
All the best.
