Help How to upgrade my Hero

Aaagghhh, confused!

I've been having a look at some of the older threads on Facebook about which version I can run on my Hero.
I found the following link which looked very useful - How to update your Orange Hero: Complete guide steps | Facebook

It refers to a Build of 2.73.61.5. However. my phone has never had any updates, nor been informed of any (I'm with Orange) and my Build number is 1.76.61.3.
Can/should I upgrade to 2.73.61.5 first?

Any help gratefully received...

Update to the most recent firmware available from the HTC support site then you will subsequently receive the 2.1 FOTA updates too.
