How Tough is the Razr M?

I'm up for an upgrade from Verizon in a couple of weeks and I haven't heard any news about Casio's newest Commando except that it is coming. I rock the old 2.3 Gingerbread slow, steady beast of a MIL-Spec phone. I've been very happy with the durability of this slow thing. It's found its way into a few pools and more than a few high drops.

I am seriously thinking of jumping ship from Casio however since they are always left behind in the upgrades.

Since Moto is part of Google, and the Razr M is a freebie for me, will I be as happy with the Gorilla Glass, Kevlar backing and the waterproof nanocoating? If you are a clumsy oaf like me, is the Razr M going to take what I give it?

I'm willing to wait for the new G'zOne but if the Razr is as tough as my old Commando, I'll go for it. I know I like the new OS and speed for sure...

I usually go for the rugged phones too and the RAZR M has been good for me. I've been using the Verizon case and holster, but I also picked up the Otterbox one.

Casio needs to get with it. They make a very nice, rugged phone.....that is usually 2 steps behind in performance. I'd get it in a heart beat if it were up-to-date hardware.

i use an Otterbox commuter with a lanyard. I am happy because when the phone falls out of my pocket it doesn't go far.

I work in a warehouse environment and have dropped my phone on the concrete floor more than once. I do not have any case on it as I like the smaller size of this phone.

i had the m before the hd...ironically, when my wife dropped it a relatively short distance onto our hardwood floor at home...what shattered wasn't the screen, it was the glass on the back at the top around the camera! Insurance replaced it with a hd

Yeah, I don't think it's Casio's fault. If you look over the specs on the FCC documents, they are pretty damn good for a phone that was somewhat finalized late last year. And, I think the thing is in the wild in the Asian markets.

Verizon is the likely culprit on keeping this thing away from our hungry hands until it's too old and clunky to satisfy "Power" users. Saying that they have to sell the last 2000 or so old Commandos in order to release the new ones sounds lame. But, who knows? Maybe they don't have as sweet a deal with Casio as they do with Samsung and Apple. Those two behemoths can probably give Verizon a hefty bulk discount to sell their doodads to us. Maybe this Samsung Active thingy will be my new Milspec phone if Verizon doesn't release the new Casio soon.

Still mulling over getting the Razr since I've applied a nice little "V6 supercharger" hack that speeds up my old clunker a lot.
