Help How useful is the data network mode?

How useful is this feature found when you press the power button for for a second. Is this useful when you are roaming in other countries and want to curb your data usage?

It depends what you're trying to achieve.... when you select it, to turn data OFF... then your phone is limited to standard 2G mobile network only, so no data. This also has the benefit of improving your battery life. So yes, abroad when you want to avoid expensive roaming charges (for data) this would be a good solution. Please note, you will still be able to use your phone for standard calls and will therefore still get associated roaming charges for calls in and out, voicemail etc.

As long as my weather app, email accounts, and any stuff does not use data that is fine with me. though I noticed that I could use the android market if I turned the wifi on.

1) Email, weather (update) does use data. Off data and you won't be getting any emails or weather updates.

2) If wifi is on, and you can connect to the internet, then you don't need data. Its either one or the other.

3) You can leave data on, and untick data roaming. When you go overseas, the data will not be activated.

1. Unless of course you are wifi connected
2. Not 100% true. Disabling data and using wifi alone will mean you get internet etc, but you will not be able to send/receive MMS
3. spot on
:)

When you are on wifi, you can leave the data on. You will see that the data (3G, HSPA etc.) icon is not shown in the notification bar. Meaning anything you download/upload should not use the data quota. Although didn't know bout the MMS :)

Oh ya, does MMS counts as data because its charged like a normal SMS by my service provider, just different rate. So it doesn't eat into my data quota.

Cheers
