How will you be purchasing the phone?

I'm personally shooting for Best Buy:

-Instant rebates
-Several gift cards to that specific retailer
-Electronic trade-in

ALL of the above help alleviate the out of pocket expense I directly feel LOL

Yup. I know this won't apply to everybody, but I know it will for you in particular (for LA Radio Shack's). I went to the Radio Shack on Westwood Blvd. (South of Santa Monica, next to California Chicken Cafe) last night. When I asked the guy about the EVO, at first he thought I was talking about a different phone and told me that they had it at Fox Hills (Westfield Culver City). When I asked again, he said, "Oh, that's the new one. Yeah, we just had training on that. I don't have any details on it yet, though. No matter what, I know for sure we won't be getting that one when it comes out. The Fox Hills store gets all the new phones first." I'm not sure which BB I'll be going to yet. It's either WLA, Westwood, or Sherman Oaks.

Maybe I'll see you there :p.

I'll probably get it at Best Buy and use my Amex card for price protection.

I'm currently on SERO. My contract ended in 2009.

I want it the first day possible, so that probably means Best Buy, but that's only IF, and only IF, I can't order it online or through the phones.

The only snag in my plan is that I want to sign up for the Everything Plus referral plan to save a couple of bucks. I'm guessing that BB wouldn't be able to handle that, though.

I read somewhere that EVO won't be available for online ordering for the first month or something - is that legit?

I'm currently a Sprint customer on a family plan...and both me and my wife are eligible for upgrades. And on top of this...it's a small discount...but we currently get an "Affinity" discount via our insurance company. I would like to keep this small discount and change our plan to the Everything Data Family 1500...and get two EVOs. I think trying to accomplish this by going to BB, Wirefly or somewhere else a bit more complicated. Still...$50 per phone is a pretty good discount....and I may be able to work with Sprint to re-apply the affinity discount later? Not sure?

OH...and have you guys seen the link on Phandroid about the HTC Incredible being delayed. If you read the article you will see that Phandroid has a new store where that phone is immediately available! And...it's $149! So....perhaps buying the EVO 4G right here at Phandroid will be an option?

I have the same plan you described in your post, you don't have to change anything with the third party vendor just get your upgrade phones from where ever you like.

Then call Sprint and ask them to change your plan. You can downgrade or upgrade you plan at anytime without penalty as long as it's not a cancellation without penalty.

Cool...thanks! I thought you had to show your eligible for the upgrade by going for a two year contract. And then....following that thought....that you would need to go ahead and change plans via the third party vendor immediately. I guess I'm ignorant to the process...had my Katana way too long! LOL

Can you baby step me through this? So let me get this straight...I can buy from the third party vendor without choosing a plan....just with the knowledge that my wife and I are eligible....and then receive the phones before signing the new contract? Okay...as you can see I'm a bit confused. I don't think the plan we're on now would work with the EVO 4G...and would like to port our numbers from our old phones. So...would we be able to do this from Wirefly or Best Buy?

My one last thought...I guess we wouldn't have the luxury of having our contacts imported if we buy from another company...yes? I feel high maintenance right about now...but do appreciate the advice!

Well I know BestBuy helps you import contacts for you, I've never really looked too far into this but my local Sprint store the guys in there are so friendly they'd probably do it for free as long as your a customer.

As far as the upgrade just don't change anything on your plan, you're eligible right now right? Just go in pick your phones tell then to upgrade the lines as your contract is now, when you leave the store dial 611 on your phone tell Sprint you want to change to the new plan and you've just upgraded and they can do it right over the phone.

EDIT:

In case you're doing it online buy the phones and upgrade your current plan when you get the phones dial Sprint CS and do exactly the samething.

Pennies..

A Roll of pennies for every day after the CITA announcement that they made us wait to buy the phone

It really depends on the release date for me.

Weekend release:
Springfield, MO Best Buy or Sprint Corp. store on Battlefield

Weekday release:
Anywhere I can scramble to around Alton/Bethalto/Edwardsville, IL

I WANT THIS PHONE!!!

I was gonna do Best Buy but if EVP gets it early I may go through them. Will they apply all requisite discounts for 1-year Premier members?

lmao

i can see Ozcar writing it up right now.

Breaking News Now: "Woman smoking a cig, sells her first born for an EVO."

lol

With me, probably best buy.

TS out (getting smokes)

Nah it'll be more like "Android forums' River of Ice has learned that Sprint will charge a pack of smokes and 1st born child for HTC EVO 4G with a 2 year contract"

through sprint i can save $75 dollars when it comes out or wait til aug 1st and save $150....so the release date means nothing to me really. although i would love to have it instantly, saving money is more important at this time.

EVP does MIR, just like Sprint. So, you'll get the full discount for premier members for sure, but still have to send in MIR.
