How's 4G in DC?

There is a small spot in Leesburg that has 4G. The tower is on top of the Verizon building on market street. I was able to get a few bars of 4G about a mile up the road.

I live in Woodbridge & cannot get it there.

I have gotten 4G in Rosslyn outside my office building.

Im in Woodbridge too. I just bitched at Sprint and got an Airwave in my house.

6 bars (3G) in my basement office plus wi-fi. Im more than satisfied.

4G will be cool eventually but the way things are going, I'll prolly get the next EVO with LTE next year.

What is Airwave? I use wireless in my house so I'm Ok.

It's a miniture 3G cell site that plugs into your high speed internet. The newest model will provide you 3G voice and data within a normal sized house. Sprint has been giving them away to keep customers who have crappy signal in their homes.

Has anyone else noticed a significant speed bump in the DC area for 4G? I noticed in other threads like Seattle they are noticing them as well. I did a speed test at the taco bell in Tyson's Corner and got around 5.2 mbps. In Crystal City it was around 4.5 and today in DC near the capitol it was 5.5.

Shady Grove Metro with 3 bars of 4G. 3Mbps down, 1Mbps up.
Chinatown, inside a building, 1 bar of 4G. 2.75 Mbps down, .3Mbps up.

This area is relatively slow compared to other 4G cities. Used FCC test.

These speeds are disappointing. I want it primarily for MIFI/tethering. I bought a T-Mobile Rocket and was getting 6 Mb down and 2Mb up. I had to return it because the modem driver caused my MBP to kernel panic when every I pulled up a browser with any of the GTalk/Voice/GMail services active. The other problem is because I use Mozy for online backups I hit the 5Gb limit in 2 days. 200k is very slow.

Does the Sprint MiFi device get better speeds than the Evo?

Thanks
