How's the alarm clock?

I have been using my alarm since last Wednesday. I had it set for the Mon-Fri option and it has been going off every morning. (not on weekends ;)) I haven't had any problems with it since I set it last week. It is loud enough to wake up to and you can easily snooze or dismiss it right as it goes off. (I do not use any ATK's.)

So I've figured out what my problem is - it's a combination of the Bedside app and locking the phone before I go to sleep. I've put more information here in case others are having the same issue.

My Settings:

  • Keep screen on - unchecked
  • Silent notifications - checked
  • Auto-start - checked
  • Auto-unlock - checked
  • Auto-close - checked
To Replicate:

  1. Set alarm
  2. Lock the phone
  3. Plug in the power cable
  4. When the alarm rings, there is no way to dismiss it
Through my testing, I've figured out this is due to the auto-unlock. This is most likely because, when the phone is locked, the dismissal screen is a modified lock screen (which Bedside disables due to my settings)

For now I'll keep auto-unlock unchecked, but I prefer the prompt that I get when the phone is unlocked (I actually have to be awake to read the buttons to turn the alarm off, while the lock screen alarm prompt is just a slide).

I would like to know also... i love the phone but my alarm has been checked and rechecked and is set right.. but DOESNT go off... I am having to use the alarm on my old dare.

Basically, something you've installed is interfering with it. This has been the scenario in EVERY other case that's been resolved.

Start by removing any task killers or alternate clock/alarm/sleep modifying apps. Make sure you restart by removing them. Once you get yourself back to a state where the alarm is working normally, you can add those types of apps back one at a time and see what is messing it up.

Has there been a definitive answer about why some alarms aren't going off in the morning? Is it the task killers? I have nothing installed (no apps) and am still worried my alarm won't go off tomorrow morning. The Incredible is the only alarm we have lol, no clocks or other phones. So I'm a bit worried.

Id say almost all cases of the alarm clock not going off were due to task killers. Some other issues (like the one above where he didn't get any "dismiss" or "snooze" option) may be of a different breed

I have yet to see an incident of the alarm not going off that wasn't task killer related.

I use ringtones on my enV2 as alarm tones. Surely this can be done?

Actually no. At least, I couldn't figure it out. I could go into my music and set music as ringtones, but I couldn't set mp3's to play as an alarm..

i skimmed the thread and didn't see this addressed(probably missed it) but sure you can set mp3's as alarm sounds. i wake to second chance every morning. nice wakeup tone. other than being a great song it starts out with some nice soft guitar strums :)....oh yeah...and the first words are "my eyes are open wide"

Just a follow up on the Bedside app (not the HTC alarm). After disabling auto-unlock, my alarm now goes off in the morning and I can dismiss it. I emailed the dev and he said that he found the cause of my problem, and that he hopes to have an update out sometime within the next few days to fix it. Until then, he's removed the app from the Marketplace.

So the alarm clock works just fine but I think HTC designed the dismiss/snooze actions poorly.

I haven't tried the side buttons yet but I think I keep swiping the lock screen instead of pushing the snooze button. Not good.

if anyone figures out how to add diff wake up alarm sound files please share. thats my only "complaint".

need more gentle wake ups and not the fog horns, haz mat alarms and smoke detectors telling me its time to get out of bed

Why are all these people using task killer anyways? The phone works perfect with out it.

Can task killers be set to kill themselves?

Most people don't even need a tool like this. They **think** they are doing some good, but they **fail** to understand android.

Try connecting your phone to the computer and browsing all of the folders on the internal storage - find the one in which the normal alarm sounds are stored and drag/drop your new sounds there.
