How's your battery doing on leaked JB or variants of it ?

I was going to post this in the Neat ROM thread, but it has nothing to do with salesale's work at all. This is the current state of mine. :(

Sygic + 3G and there you go... ;)

With moderate use i`m getting easily 15h but i don`t use navi&gps.

Twinn is right, but I have similar experiences as yours. As you know, dynomot, I don't have 3G network, but battery life is way better on Neatrom LPY with Dori or Siyah kernel. So you are not alone. :)

Well, I finally solved some of the battery issues that have been plaguing me on the PhilZ kernel for the last week.

During that week I was averaging around 13-15 hours of my normal usage. That included phone/video calls, web browsing, texts, GPS/Google Maps, etc:

On Sunday, with the imminent prospect of being affected by the floods, locally, I set about going through my phone with a fine tooth comb to try and see if I could get more from it as I knew from previous experience, that this would be my life-line.

In the last 24 hours or so, my area has been on Flood Alert and this has meant calls to the Environment Agency, neighbours and sundry other organisations as well as keeping tabs on the various web sites and news sites and not to mention countless texts.

Whilst some of you may use your phones for recreational purposes, mine is a working phone, a life-line and a necessity. Only the other day, during the storms, I got an accurate GPS fix for the Highways Department to come and remove a fallen tree that was blocking access. Incidentally, the GPS fix was not only fast but so accurate that when I zoomed in on satellite mode in Google Maps, it showed the same tree, still standing.

I am certainly not claiming that this is the best that you can get on JB and the PhilZ kernel, which is stock anyway, or that I cannot improve on this myself.

I will say that this is the most I have ever got from a battery on a stock kernel without the benefit of dedicated kernel tweaks.

It does however mean that I now know that with my usage I can get about a day, 24 hours, from it... which is all I wanted. :)

This will come in useful as we are still on Flood Alert here as we wait for the next high tide and all the water coming down river from the Welsh Mountains... I blame Hawker for that and if I catch him relieving himself in the river... he's for it! :boxing:

I think ironass has hit the nail squarely on the head saying "of my normal usage". I wouldnever use Sygic normally without my car charger. Comparisons between each other aren't helpful in determining how good a new kernel or ROM is, only the individual user can determine that. For instance I know for a fact that having Siyah v5, and tweaked for best performance rather than battery conservation on Neat 3.6 was still much better than what I'm using now with JB. I was hoping that fellow users would confirm or deny what I'm experiencing.

To iron ass ......

Hope the flooding is OK and you are all safe and well....i know the born up the road here burst andi had to help neighbours out with their defenses.luckily no damage etc :)

However ,i am kinda intreagued as to what tweaks you made, i know it doesn't mean they will makea difference to me, but nice to try ifi don't use the things.

I'm still high and dry... for now! Next high tide is early tomorrow, when it should meet the first of the water coming down from the Welsh mountains. Even worse news... 2 pubs flooded, 1 to go. :ahhhhh:

However ,i am kinda intreagued as to what tweaks you made, i know it doesn't mean they will makea difference to me, but nice to try ifi don't use the things.

I was afraid that someone was going to ask me that question sntaylor! :shot:

There is no point in going into specifics because we all use our phones differently.

1. Enable all the Power Saving options in Settings. This will not suit game players as it knocks the CPU down from 1200 MHz to 800 MHz. However, I can play HD videos quite happily and there is no lag or freezing.

2. Read Hawker's post here.

3. Go through every app and look at whether it needs to keep connecting to the web. If it does... does it need to be so often.

4. Go to Settings > Application manager > Running... and look carefully at all the app's you have currently running... then go to.. Show cached applications. Do you need them all... if not, go to item #5.

5. Using Titanium Backup and the instructions, here, go through all the installed app's on your phone and freeze those you do not need by referencing the spreadsheets in the instructions. I currently have 76 system app's frozen that I do not use on NEAT ROM full.

6. See if you can replace app's with more battery friendly ones. For example, Fancy Widgets from the Play Store, can replace your stock clock and weather widgets and has the advantage of being able to set a sleep, non update, period. Saves about 8 hours of updates/battery usage on one app alone.

7. For about a week, using BetterBatteryStats, set a Custom Reference before going to sleep and then take screenshots of all the states when you wake up. Then you can build up a picture of what is using battery and keeping your phone awake when it is not being used. Doing this, eventually, allowed me to track down and eliminate a lot of wakelocks that were consuming my battery 24/7. For more information on BetterBatteryStats and what the wakelocks mean, see here. Please, don't anybody post loads of BBS screenshots... I'm not interested. Do what I do... read and Google them. ;)

There are no shortcuts I'm afraid.

Not glad you asked now, are you? :s:

Correct!

But Thanks All The Same.Lol

Glad Your Still Dry At Least, Pity About The Pubs :-( Got To Admit, Being I'm Scotland I'm Quite Happy With The Weather.... I Just Always Remember(It Wasn't Long Ago) Reports Of Drought(HOse Pipe BanS) And Flooding At The Same Time....Just Couldn't Picture It! Lol...

Any Way, KeepSafe :-)
