Root Howto install DATA2SD: Guide

Dont know if you saw on XDA, this works great on GV 0.7, plus flashable zip.

Still same issues with 0.8, but have pm'd richard trip as per his request....

Lags for one..
I used to have a lot of them on installing apps from the market..That's gone..

Plus..I had occassional loops after reboots previously..So far, I have still to see a boot loop..I've even rebooted with snq menu..Even that didnt wreck it! :)
 
No worries. I cant benchmark right now as Gingervillain is not optimised for 3d graphics, meaning quadrant scores are incomplete.

Is it worth it...Running a Rom which is under development, that is? Arent there other features which are incomplete?
 
I'm always running roms under development. defrost was constantly changing.

In regards to GV except on 0.7 LED issue, havent found anything that I use not working..

Its nice to be honest. Yes worth it for a change and as its still same DF dev, its just going to get better and better.

Cool..I did try one of the Gingerbread roms once..
But I like the HTC Contacts app and Calendar too much to stick to AOSP.. :)

By the way, if you use Outlook for your appointments, do try MyPhoneExplorer. It is a very good alternative to HTC Sync app..
 
Get rid of the ext3 and expand either ext4 or fat32 into the empty space.
The script should delete a2sd script for you.

2- Does that kernel support ext4?? how to know generally?

3- Lastly, do I just delete any a2sd script I find from /etc/init.d/ using say any file manager??
In my case it is a file called "40a2sd"...
Please note there is also another file called "99complete".

I havent tested the script on such a configuration. I'm inclined to believe that it will fail/show errors.

What you need is one fat32 followed by one ext4.

If it's stock rom which you rooted by yourself, it will NOT have ext4 support..

I will be uploading a stock rooted rom for this, on Xda very soon..You can easily use that.

Edit: By the way, the Rom dev mentions on the rom post, whether the kernel supports ext4..Most newer roms do..includingf Lee, Aurax etc..
 
Took backup and all went wrong. Had enough so used partition for apps2sd+ and returned to custom mtd

Actually for me, device much faster this way

You did the method Sibere suggested, right?

It should have worked on a clean install..I'm not sure about the ext2->ext4 conversion that he posted, keeping the data..Too many factors involved..

And yes, MTD is a lot stabler I guess. On AOSP, it is fine if you use MTD. While using MIUI, I could get an extra 100Mb with that.

Dont know why it didnt work though..I'm guessing you retried manually..Interesting to know what made it fail though..
 
It worked at first but I think an unclean dismount caused issues.

Also started after taking a backups.

I started clean with your zip and restored via ti.
 
Sorry just want to clarify: it's an either/or situation with Data2SD, right? Either I modify my existing ROM (LeeDroid 2.3d) to have Data2SD, or just flash the Starbust ROM?

I'm a total Android noob, and am afraid to tinker under the hood (How does one remove the a2sd script from /etc/init.d/ anyway?)

In case you're scared to "tinker under the hood, you can just flash my Data2SD installer right after a full wipe and flash of Lee's rom.

Ok, bear with me a bit. In my case, the step-by-step is:

1) Nandroid Backup
2) Titanium Backup
3) Wipe everything
4) partition SD card to EXT4 (I have a 16Gb card; can I do a 1.5 or 2Gb partition?)
5) Flash LeeDroid 2.3d
6) Flash A2SDKillerV5.zip
7) Flash Data2SDInstallerV5_Sense.zip

Re: Steps 5-7 = would it be simpler to just flash StarBurst Froyo, since it already has Data2SD on it?
 
What rom are you on now?

You can use any sense rom (with init.d support) and flash the data2sd installer, so if you already have a custom sense rom, you wont need step 5.

Droidzone, your installer used to remove a2sd scripts didnt it? Why now a separate zip?
