Yes that means its unlocked
I wanted to try and use this method to do the bare minimum it would take to swap the internal and external SD cards on a stock JB model (ie boot into CWMrecovery and flash in the vold.fstab or superuser)
Booting into CWMrecovery seems to be not an issue but booting into the linked Kernel seems to not be working. I'm presuming its an ICS vs JB thing. I also tried just installing the superuser zip from within the booted recovery image, but that doesn't seem to work either.
Is what I would like to do possible, or do I have to go through the whole S-OFF/moonshine and then restore the "stock" JB nandroid backup etc?

First off you need s-off to disable the write protection that the kernel has built into it. If you were to just be bootloader unlocked, then send cmd
you would be able to flash root and keep it. Until reboot.
I know out kind of stinks, but s-off on a device you own is pretty freaking awesome.

Does anybody have a copy of the Boost specific ClockworkMod recovery? Everywhere I have tried to get it, it's removed... I just got this phone and didn't need to root it until now. Can't even extract music files without root... bust! Thanks for the help guys.

Does this method work for those with the 4.2.2 OTA?
It didn't for me. I ended up overwriting the stock recovery in order to boot TWRP & re-root after the 4.2.2 OTA update. That said, TWRP has been updated multiple times since I tried to "fastboot boot TWRP.img" and I haven't tried with the current version.

The Bootloader for 4.2.2 made some changes and one of those changes messed with the ability to boot the custom recovery vice flashing. In order to boot the custom recovery it requires an additional command which I currently have not determine what it would be yet.
However, if you are S-Off you can downgrade your bootloader back to 2.0 and you should be fine.
