HSPA +42 magic?

Short answer, no. The Nexus 4 is capable of faster speeds than the GNexus, but unless your area can actually deliver those speeds, which in your case it apparently does not, I wouldn't expect an increase.

Man this phone is super smooth. I'm noticing much faster speeds through the speed test app. Three times as fast. Also GPS locks in immediately.

So my gnex on T-Mobile was only getting 2-5 mbps down during the day. Will my n4 "magically" increase my dl speeds?

Hi i have the Nexus 4 on 3 network, at most i have seen it connect at HSPA+15

speeds have no doubt increased, i have hit up-to 10mb/sec download. on my Iphone 4s max i ever achieved was 3-4mb.

hope this helps

So you were wrong and the short answer was - yes.

So, question for the OP, are you still on T-Mobile and what state are you in?

I'm in long island NY, as I said before my gnex was pulling 2-5 Mbps down. Just did a test now and I got 14 Mbps down 3 up. Still on T-Mobile.

make sure you setup the APN properly. i'm seeing reports from most people reporting 15Mbps down on T-Mobile's network. I'm on AT&T StraightTalk and I'm getting 9Mbps down.

OK, gonna find them. Off topic....camera is really bad, native group chat MMS even with iPhone.

At home I'm getting 10-15mbps DL, but at work I've gotten only .90-1mbps. Such a big difference and my commute is only 20 blocks lol.

Assuming the tests were done from the same *exact* location - preferably right down to sitting in the same chair - there could be 2 reasons for such a result:

1. The Nexus 4 has better radio reception than the GNex or...
2. You used a new SIM in the N4 rather than swap in the one from the GNex. New, updated SIMs often give much better performance than old ones.

I live in Manhattan. So if I get those speeds, I'm golden! :D God damn it, when will I be able to order this phone (16GB).

First two weeks I had my gnex I was constantly nitpicking. Ended up using about a GB of data one month just doing speed tests everywhere I went. Never once did I hit over 6 Mbps down with my gnex. I would assume its a better radio from all the problems I've read about with the gnex but I also did get a new Sim as well.

I would think Manhattan always had access to high data speed regardless of the carrier. I know sprint has there wimax towers out there but none on long island.

I live and work in Manhattan and as I posted before I get much higher speeds at home than I do at work. Not really sure why, but that's what I've observed to this point.

The N4 uses dual-carrier HSPA. I believe even with the same signal strength it has the potential for higher speeds.

any one from the phoenix area on t-mobile, and what kind of speeds are you getting

I'm in the East Valley (Tempe) and I tested my Nexus 4 in several locations in Mesa, Tempe, Gilbert and Chandler, compared side-by-side with my Thunderbolt on Verizon LTE.

Speedtest showed faster download speeds for T-Mobile in 6 of 8 locations, with the fastest download of 23 MB/S. Average T-Mobile speed was 12 MB/S, average Verizon 8 MB/S.

However, upload was slower than my Verizon phone in all 8 locations.

This wasn't an exhaustive test, and I suspect that there are more dead areas for T-Mobile than Verizon, but I didn't find any.

When my Thunderbolt was new almost two years ago, I saw much higher download speeds -- around 20 MB/S. The Thunderbolt was Verizon's first LTE phone, so at that time the network was not congested. Congestion probably explains the slower speeds I see now.
