Help HSPA or UMTS

Hi;
I have an unlocked(I think) D3 rooted.
How do I get the phone to automatically connect to bell network in Canada?
My Carrier, not bell but uses their network, says phone must be HSPA(UMTS) compatible.
When I go into network settings and change it to gsm/umts I can connect. As soon as I loose signal it goes back to Global and I loose connection/will not reconnect.

Which settings do I have to change or software do I have to install(different ROM maybe?)?
Does it matter if it a 2G or 3G network?

Getting a little confused(read fried) :banghead: due to overload of reading different issue and fixes for other problems

You may have to edit build.prop so that your default network type isn't global, but GSM/UMTS. Option 4 is CDMA, 7 is Global, I think 3 is UMTS.

Changing this should make it stick as the default choice.
