Help HTC "background data"

I did something to my phone and I cannot figure out how to get it back to normal. Everytime I click on the Market icon I get a message "market needs background data to be enabled" Can you please tell the the path to correct this.

Menu-settings-wireless and networks-third from the bottom Mobile network. Make sure thats checked.

background data can be found here:

Menu>Settings>Accounts and Sync>Background Data ... make sure it's check marked.
