HTC CU S490 car kit

Ok I have the official HTC car kit for the Sensation, and here is my review of it so far. I will also be doing a video to show what my opinion of the kit is, and to show in detail the issues with this kit.

First the Packaging, which is true to HTC and comes well packaged which includes the holder, charger socket, usb charger lead, adhesive disk to mount to dash, instruction manuals.

The holder has the same fixing method as the kit for the original Desire, and the Nexus one, the phone is easy to clip into the holder and feels very secure once it is in. It is really a two handed operation to do both putting the phone in and taking it out of the holder. The usb connector is hinged to give easier fitting, and the phone locks into place easily.

Once attached to the screen it is secure and is going nowhere. Setting up the holder is not anywhere as easy as the Desire kit was, as htc seem to have designed this kit to work only in landscape mode. Now this would be fine if the sensation home screen went into landscape mode once turned on its side, but as it does not, the holder is all but useless in normal use as the stalk between the suction mount and the device holder is too short to allow the phone to be turned to portrait mode without fouling the windscreen. Like I have said this would not be an issue if all the phones features work fine in landscape mode, but they dont.

I prefer to use the phone for sat nav and normal use in portrait mode all the time anyway, but I feel HTC have failed badly in the design of this holder.

I have used this holder in both my car and the coach I drive, and the issue is only present in the car, as the coach screen is vertical as opposed to the car screen being raked and as most people will buy this to use in their cars, the issue is even more valid. So for the price this kit is, (I paid
