yes,the delux is the butterfly. it comes in 3 basic flavors, other than the dna here in the us. the butterfly j,wich was used in KDDIs network in japan, and the x920d,and x920e. the J is similar to the DNA in that it is cdma/lte,but lacks the gsm radios the dna has. the other 2 are no lte,gsm regional differences.
id venture to guess the dna recovery would techincally work, but id prolly recomend against it. twrp and clockwork recoveries are listed in the butterfly original android development section over on xda.
if you have the butterfly j on hboot 1.39,you can use team unlimiteds dirty racun tool to s off. the others may be s-offed via a facepalm s-off,or possibly via revone recently released for the htc one,or possibly moonshine s off, recently released for the one and dna.
if youre not really interested in s off, you can do the standard htcdev unlock with the x920d and x920e. KDDI has kept the j off the official unlock list, much like verizon and the dna,so youll need to follow a guide to temp root and superCID before you can htcdev unlock.
you can follow the second post guide to htcdev unlock here: http://androidforums.com/droid-dna-all-things-root/652672-guide-unlock-droid-dna.html#post5240221 just make sure to use the recovery specifically for your device, and not the one linked for the dna.
roms seem to be modle specific.
hope that helps, just holler if you have other questions.![]()
Thanks scott85, but I'm old school (55). I'm relatively new to android. I have a one month old HTC Deluxe (cellcom) android version 4.1.1. I would like to root it to cut the crap and set up lean and mean. But, I do not want to risk bricking it. So I nee a reliable (tested on this device) process to root my device. Or, I will wait. Thanks for your time.
How do I determine if I have the x920d or a x920e? I'm such a noob, sorry.
I don't think it makes a difference actually, the unlock process should work the same for both.
Hey Guys, I recently got the HTC Dlx and was trying to figure out which phone's rooting procedure I should follow. Unlocking the bootloader was no problem. From reading the post above I decided against using dna tarp version and went with the 920e version. I flashed and tried to enter recovery and the screen blacked out. I thought I was screwed, but I was able to get back to the bootloader and reboot. So then I flashed the dna version of twrp and it worked perfectly. I was able to get su and busybox loaded. I guess what I'm getting at is, I think procedures for the dna should be followed when working on the deluxe.
