Help hTC desire 500 turning off and on itself!!!!

My hTC desire 500, 18 months old, turning off and on automatically while kept in pockets or lying idly on table. Why is it so? any problem with motherboard ?

Only thing I can think of is it's overheating. Does it feel hot?

I had a very similar problem with a Samsung Galaxy Trend TWICE, and it was a faulty power button! Couldn't fix it myself so since it was still under warranty I took it it, TWICE!!

Go to settings > privacy>factory reset / it will work

This step will erase your data so ensure you do a backup first. Actually, this should be a last resort before you go in for replacement/repair. Despite maheshstark's confidence, it will not work if there is a physical problem with your phone causing this issue. You should really only do a factory reset if you feel you are out of options and you want to rule out or confirm that it is a hardware problem.

The fact that it's turning itself ON as well as off suggests a hardware fault to me tbh. Maybe the power button
