Excuse me if this has been referenced already, but the The HTC website has been updated and for the Desire states the following?

Camera

5 megapixel color camera
720p High Definition Video capture
Face detection capability
Auto focus and flash
Widescreen photo capture
Geotagging

I think what the op might be pointing out is the HTC website has changed it description of the Desire.before it didn't mention 720p video. Maybe official Froyo is imminent.

The official website has always mentioned 720p as far as I know, as it was like it back in april when I was looking to buy the phone. I was annoyed when I got the phone and it didnt record in 720p.

the phone is capable but not using 2.1.

I think those using 2.2 have already confirmed that it works in 2.2 though.

If you play the video in something like Quicktime I think you can call up the video properties and that should show you the resolution and frame rate.. If I remember right...

The video seems good, not flickery so frame rate must be quite high. How do you find that out?

On 2.1 if you go into the photo app and bring up the videos. if you long press the video you can choose details. Shows you the framerate in there.

30FPS would be nice but I'll be happy with 25

Technically, humans can't see over 27FPS anyway, but like with CD's and Vinyl, you can tell the difference.

But it would be better to check the framerate on a PC for an accurate reading. the app on teh phone may play at a different framerate because its downscaling resolution too.

The product page has had a mini makeover; the Desire pages are definitely new and it does indeed show HD video capture on the specs page.

Actually it's misleading isn't it! It doesn't mention 2.2 being required for this feature to be present.
