HTC Desire - Android Market

Newbie
Hi All,

I bought my unlocked Desire in the UK and used it there for about 2 months before I headed back home to Gibraltar. Now I am almost sure I opened the Market since I have been back home and remember seeing the "paid" apps section with the prices in euros.

Now when I access the market I don't have a "paid" apps section. Is it as simple as that the market may not be available in Gibraltar? or am i doing something wrong here..

Cheers

Search the support locations here for Paid and here for free distributions.

Gibraltar only appears on the free distribution list.

I'm going to guess the first time you opened it in Gibraltar you saw a cached screen which has since refreshed and removed the paid apps section.

Use android market enabler, a google search should tell you all you need to know

Thanks, I will have a look at that when I get home from work.

Its a bit frustrating after spending quite a bit of money on the phone, that I couldn't access the paid apps section therefore missing out on some great apps now and in the future.

Absolutely love the phone but the availability of the market been restricted to places is a bit ridiculous.

I take it, to use that I need to root my phone? I don't really want to have to root it and all.

I do get spanish networks available in Gib but then again I would be roaming and if I start downloading apps, thats going to cost me more lol.

Contract with Spanish network or a Spanish Pay As You Go card soley for downloading paid apps?

Lol off topic like but I had to google Gibralta, didnt even know it existed :O

and yeah when i went to zimbabwe, i had no market on my phone aswel, but then again the currency is crap :/

Right an update on this,

I decided to root my phone to be able to get access to the paid apps.

Used a stock rom because I have only just gotten used to the Desire's UI and I really didn't fancy a change at the moment.

Also added APPS2SD+ whilst I was at it to get rid of that pesky internal memory issue.

If google decides to add Gibraltar to the paid apps list tomorrow then today will have been a huge waste of time lol. Doubt it's going to happen any time soon anyway lol.

I am having problem with market also, but this time with free apps. When I whant to download Skype or Google Earth I am getting message cant find item on market ??

A newbie question :/
All my apps are coming on the main menu, any way of creating a folder and putting the apps from the menu in it? Oh, and I have a HTC Desire if that helps lol.

No.

The menu is exactly that. You can use Folder Organizer for your home screens, but not for the menu.

Right now that I can see the paid apps thanks to market enabler, I can't buy any, I always get payment declined even though I have used my google checkout account many times for other non market related purchases. The card on the account is fine and funds is no issue.

Has anyone encountered an issue like this?

That's the reason paid apps aren't available everywhere. They don't trust the payment services to not be scammed.

I even tried to buy an app from the developer directly, and Pay Pal made me jump through about 50 hoops to make a payment from my bank account (wouldn't take a credit card) and then, after several days, Pay Pal cancelled the transaction because of my location.

So, I don't think it has much to do with the market. It's more a problem about not being able to verify $ transactions as legit outside of a few "trusted" countries.

There are alternative markets you can try though.

Which are the alternative markets?

It is getting a bit frustrating not been able to enjoy what the market has to offer to its full potential, this is one serious big mistake on google's part.

The Android Market really has a lot to get through before it can seriously compete with the App store, I know that apple are really controlling on what can go on the appstore and what not, but hey at least I can download and buy stuff for my iPod touch.

I don't see why google have not made the paid apps more available everywhere and even then, Gibraltar where I live, the currency is sterling so its not like google can't just paid us with the UK Market for example.

I have AppBrain but if i want to get the app via appbrain it takes me to the market and well I am in the same situation. I can't purchase any apps.

SlideMe
AndAppStore
Handango
AndroidGear
Phoload
Mobihand
AppsLib
Insyde Market
NetDragon
KUQU
Noverca
GetJar

Note: I am not recommending any of the above. I haven't used them, but they have been posted about previously.

Hi everyone,

Managed to fix the issue!

I cleared the market data and cache then used market enabler again, I went into my google checkout account and changed the address of the card to United States. Now I can finally purchase apps.

I think the issue lay with developers only allowing certain countries to purchase from them and seeing as my card was saved with Gibraltar as my address, it just didn't let me purchase anything at all, even though I was using market enabler.
