Help HTC Desire: Apps Failing to Update

For a few weeks now quite a few of my installed apps (Angry Birds, Apps2SD, plus others I cannot bring to mind right now) will update on the market, when trying to install says application failed to update. Now im not particulary techy but have read a few threads saying to uninstall the new version of market, which I have done, and also move the apps back to phone memory. I have tried both of these but the apps are still not updating!

Is there not some update fix for this or some simple answer as it is really starting to annoy me and not too sure where to turn?!?

No not tried that, how do you clear the market cache? (like i said not too techy!)

Menu, settings, applications, manage applications, market, clear cache.

There was a thread somewhere (did search but couldn't find it) about a file named .smpt? that downloads onto your sd card somehow . Delete this, as it doesn't do anything, and it should update apps fine
