Hi, the red man is astrid tasks telling me to do stuff. You can download it from the market.

The one beside it is setCPU. It allows over and under clicking of the CPU. But you have to be rooted to use it.

I have to underclock my CPU when the screen is off inorder to save battery.



And vinnychase if you are serious then post up more screenshots over the next few days. I don't think my battery would even last that long if I just left the phone on normally without using it so under normal usage you should get 2 days at least.

I'm not a troll dude. My sync was on manual; I did a few manual syncs. And maybe 1 hour wifi. That's why I claim the percentage could be marginal. I'm not making this up to fool people.

You're making calls yet calls aren't appearing on your battery usage. You're using wifi yet wifi doesn't appear on your battery usage. You're also sending texts and browsing the internet. All of the above also require you're display to be on but your display doesn't appear in your battery usage.

face it guys if you use the phone as intended then you should get a day maybe 2 days out of it at most, if you turn everything off and set everything to manual then of course you'll get more life out of the thing.

As also stated earlier it's also down to your signal strength, if you're phone is trying to find a 3G signal constantly then it will drain quicker. Over my girlfriends where her walls seem to be made out of bunker grade concrete my battery drains a lot quicker than when i'm at home/work.

Another battery thread.

Other than my Google account I have nothing set to auto sync, I don't use any flashy widgets, I turn off Wi-Fi and Mobile Network when I'm not using them, and I only have a few running services and I still have to charge my phone every night. When I'm using the camera, playing Angry Birds, or browsing for a prolonged period of time the battery really does suffer. I definitely had a better battery life with 2.1 than I do with 2.2.

God why do I still explain myself. The usage of wifi/display/calls over 5 DAYS was MARGINAL. That's why it does not appear on the battery use.

Just because one or two DONT get decent battery life it doesnt make it the 'Norm' In my experience, from reading threads like these and from people I know who have these phones, there are more people who get a decent battery life than who dont (and the ones that dont are simply NOT using/have their phones setup correctly!).....So maybe it is time to do up a poll and MEGA THREAD to put this nonsuch to bed once and for all!

Firstly, "IF YOU USE IT AS IT IS INTENDED!" Statements like that just baffle me! WHO decides how it should be used? HTC? YOU? Someone else?

Is it NOT down to the USER to decide how it should be used *shrugs* you know, a smartphone is designed to fit the needs/requirements of the USER and all that!

One thing I would like to point out here though......No-one should have to go through this sort of harassment when they make a post! That is seriously BAD FORM

Plenty of people have already stated that they can get well over 2 days of usage out of the phone.....IF you guys cant then sorry but that's just how it goes sometimes!

You are either using your phone differently, have a dodgy battery or you have a vampire app silently munching away in the shadows! My money is on the first or the last!

The area I live in the signal is dodgy at best, sometimes it shows full bar then for no reason at all it just vanishes. It is even worse at my GF's house where the only room you can get a usable signal is the upstairs bedroom! YET both our phones last well over 2 days! Mine averages around 3 days between charges, hers averages around 5 days!

For the record, when I got my phone I switched off/uninstalled all the crap/bloatware that HTC installed, a lot of which just drains the battery and is simply NOT needed! Then I went through the whole process of installing/switching on what I needed. I did the same with the GF's phone (and with a few of my mates phones as well) and we all get between 2 (heavy user) and 5 days (light user) between charges!

I use wifi when I need to.
I use data when I need to.
I dont need a bleeding weather app to tell me what the weather is like at the moment *shakes head* I have eyes and can look out the window for that! IF I need to know the forecast for the rest for the week then I sync it when required!
I dont need live wallpapers! When will I ever look at it?
I sync data when I go online or IF I am waiting for something important to come through.
I make calls, send txts and generally use my phone as a phone as well as a MID and (did I already mention that) I regularly get over 2 days of usage out of it.

The ONLY time I have had to charge it up in less time is when I was playing some games on it!

My phone stats tell me that the cell network (orangeUK) uses up around 40 odd % of the battery most of the time! Yesterday I checked my wifi usage and I had been online for 4 hours and it showed as 3%.......I had made around half an hours worth of calls and sent a number of txts yet it didnt show anything on the phone usage page! So maybe there is a bug in the usage page or, like Vinny mentioned, maybe in the grand scheme of the percentages it wasnt enough to warrant a mention!

But hey, I dont expect any of you will believe it.....I mean just because you guys dont get it it cant be real eh

Seriously? It's the single biggest complaint about the phone! By default most phones come all singing and all dancing so users can expect poor battery life. Most users will drift in and out of poor reception areas which will again impact on battery life. Just because you switch everything off doesn't mean that most users will. I like having everything turned on by default, I like multiple email accounts syncing, I like my pretty animated wallpaper. And I accept the impact on the battery life.

It's threads like these that make most users wonder why they're "only" getting a single days charge out of their phone. If you have everything turned off, live in a fantastic reception area and hardly use the phone then yes, your phone may last days and days. But I don't think this is the norm.

And I don't think anyone has been harassed in this thread. It's just discussion.

Its wild statements like this that make out that the Desire suffers from poor battery life in the first place! Not having a go mate, but it doesnt really help!

What you have to remember is that most users will only complain when something is wrong......We have thousands of users on this section and only a small % are complaining about battery life......

In my experience it is the 'norm' for users to get good battery life and to switch off things that they DONT need. It is NOT scientific, but I do know a lot of people with this specific brand of phone

IF you use a specific function (knowing you will get poor battery life) and then complain about getting poor battery life is well *looks up to the sky and sighs heavily* plain silly!

Honestly, you wouldnt leave the car engine running while you are in the house, nor would you leave your cooker/lights/TV turned on while you are at work and then complain about low mpg or high energy bills would you? Okay, I guess some would

I've said this before on other forums and in other threads that all phone makers are at fault in this because they want to make the phone stand out form the crowd. But, the majority of users DONT need most/all of the fancy dan stuff that comes shipped (already switched on) with the phone.

Like I said, maybe its time a MEGA THREAD and Poll was carried out to sort this anomoly once and for all......

Dude I already told you I do manual syncs and only do updates or run applications when they are needed. I think people here are smart enough to read that for themselves when I tell these things. Everyone uses his or her phone differently. Everyone can understand that battery life depends on usage or background running of apps, live wallpapers, music, weather syncs, internet, whatever. I already told you I did not use my phone much those 5 days and 5 hours it was up.

I don't think it's a wild statement I'd consider it to be true. The largest number of complaints, questions or requests for advice are (rightly or wrongly) concerning the phone's battery life. A search in this forum for example will bring back thousands of battery life posts. If people have everything turned on by default then battery life will be "poor".

I know a few other people with the phone and they all charge their phones nightly. They all have email and/or facebook syncing. I like having everything turned on as I don't consider charging it every night a price to pay for the convenience.

I only posted in this thread to highlight that the OP's battery life is not to be expected and is unrealistic if you use the phone in any "normal" way. I.e. taking calls, texts, browsing on 3g, syncing email and moving between areas of poorer signal. I've read lots of posts and threads and I was getting the impression that most users are now understanding the battery limitations of a smart phone and are happy charging their phones nightly. I certainly am.

Unless you got a faulty battery or you have some rogue app that keeps using 100% CPU or constantly downloads data, I don't think battery life varies that much between any two HTC Desires. What does vary is how you use your phone and what you have running in the background, and this has a huge effect.

I've disabled always-on mobile data but I still have sync for various things turned to 2-3 hour intervals. I don't need stuff syncing when the phone is in my pocket and I can't see it. As soon as I bring it out of standby, it syncs in a few seconds to catch up. Stuff like the weather widget and facebook always seem to be up to date either way.

I've also set WiFi to auto-disconnect after 15mins, and I'm using Y5 Battery Saver to turn off WiFi completely away from the home or school (don't want to clutter my home screen with a widget for this).

I can easily get 30+ hours this way *when I'm not using the phone much*. However, when I'm doing my one-hour commute each way by train, constantly browsing the net and listening to music, while drifting in and out of reception, I can use up 30-40% battery each way.

But I have a desire which achieves no more than 12 - 14 hours of battery life when on 3g.

I've read virtually everyone of the posts on net about how to preserve battery life - eg screen display down, mobile data off, synch settings for mail, don't use task killers, kill animiated backgrounds etc (I'm not running FB or any other chat program). Even tried that charge for 8 hours, off 1 more hour crap thing ... If you don't believe me, ask me to check a setting / disable a program !

I'm on Vodafone in London. today I've put phone on 2G mode ... at 40% after 13:55 hours. I've done hardly any browsing on phone but have sent texts and made a few calls and a couple of emails (as above emails set to sync not frequently - once every hour peak and once every 2 hours off peak).

today cell standby 31% (time without signal is only 5%), Phone Idle 27%, voice 18% (49 mins of calls), Andriod system 15%, Dialer 5 and Display 4. Yesterday before putting down from 3G was getting Android system at 30%.

At work I often use my BB's charger (which I know is not same output) and occassionally an [please please forgive me for saying here - blasphemy I know] I-Phone charger (which is an even a lower output too). I travel by tube so signal is patchy/non existent for my commute.

When I was travelling abroad and had all data roaming off and toggled down to 2g I achieved over 2 days. Mate at work has desire too and he is on Orange (poor guy no Froyo yet !!) - same issues for him and same result when travelling abroad !!!

My conclusion is Vodafone's (/ Orange) signal is crap for 3G. I've downloaded Antanae widget and software - shows you base signal strength.

Am I barking mad?? or is network signal on 3g killing my battery???? Or have me and my mate coincidentally both got same 'dodgy' battery in our desires??? There are a whole lot of running apps when you go into App Manager - a lot of which are prefixed with HTC - can/should I force any stops???

Mobile network is the killer.

Today My battery was still at 100% after 2 hours. As soon as I turned on 3g for one minute my battery dropped to 96%.

When I was in Austria back in March the Desire with full mobile network on, hardly dropped at all, because in Europe the quality of mobile networks (hey they even work in the tube!) is so much more superior to how they are in the UK.

Sadly there is little we can do, until the companies invest more resources into the UK network.

Currently btw my battery is now 51% after 15 hours exactly. It dropped after playing a few games throughout afternoon, done some youtube downloading earlier at work and also little twitter use.

WI-FI would have taken less of the battery.
