last question, you've been brilliant with all the help mate, do i need to purchase the unlock code off ebay, and if so, is it fine giving out my IMEI number to a random listing?

I know what you mean there m8, there is one on ebay that a few on here swear by not sure which one will see if i can find the post.

ah cheers mate, just a bit sceptical about giving out my IMEI number to any guy that tells me he can unlock the phone.

take it i can't request this from t-mobile. i was sure a while back that o2 would give you the unlock key if you asked for it?

You can get it from T-Mobile not sure if they are like orange though, as you have to be on contract for 3 months before you can get it & it costs

cheers mate, im gonna look around, weigh up my options and decide on what i need to do. i'll definately create a goldcard because it sounds useful to have, but i may decide in the end to just root. i've heard there's an official rooted 2.2 rom over at xda already, may give that a try. cheers for all the help mate, i'll post in this thread to say what i've decided

hey i have a similar question so i will post it here
I have a t-mobile branded phone
I used LEkkys ROOT guide and have rooted my guide using the update.zip that is on the guide.

Now that i have a De-Branded desire, how do i get 2.2?
When to check for updates i dont get 2.2, i get something before it?

As you are rooted you won't get the OTA updates, install one of the custom roms.
The official 2.2 is being made available already rooted over at xda, there are also some mods already available too.
