Help HTC Desire C having trouble with pictures... Please, someone help me!

I am new here, and probably the most technologically unsophisticated person ever when it comes to these things.

Here is my problem:

I recently deleted some downloads from the browser in order to make space on my sd card...
A bit after that, I restarted my phone, because i was having trouble connecting to the internet.
When my phone turned on, i checked the status of my sd card again; it said i only had 54 pictures! 54 out of the over 530 pictures i had before!
I freaked out and took out the micro sd card and put it back in after doing a battery pull. When i got it back in, all of my pictures were back, except for my downloads. I quickly hooked my phone up to the USB cable so I can back the pictures and videos up on my laptop. After doing this, i imported all of the pictures to my computer, and 183 copies of the same 54 pictures from before was the only thing that came up!

I kept pulling out the sd card and restarting my phone, and only a few times did all my pictures show up, but in those times, the second i imported the pictures to my PC it was the same 54 pictures.

I ended up just pulling the battery again and leaving the sd card out for the night.

I am to the point of tears right now because i have soooooo many pictures that are dear to me, and I can't bear to lose them.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME

Sounds like the SD card may be corrupt

Given the way SD cards work, there's a good chance the pictures could be recovered but you'd either need to buy some specialist (PC) data recovery software and card reader for your PC or to send the SD card to a data recovery company (quite expensive).

A google will help find the software or the company.
