Help HTC Desire Camera

I've been using this phone since June, and the camera quality always is something that I hope can be improved on HTC Desire.

Previously, I shared a photo to my friend, and he told me that I use a 4MP camera. I was shocked, because it should be 5MP. He's using a photo viewing software that can display photo details.

Anyway, I had a look in the camera's setting, resolution 5MP(2592 X 1552). I curiously multiply two numbers, 2592 X 1552 = 4022784 which is 4MP....

Is it just my problem or other people have the same thing?

If you set your camera resolution to 5MP but have the aspect ratio as Widescreen, you'll get 1MP cropped off as the sensor is 5MP in 4:3 aspect ratio. Set it to 4:3 in the settings and suddenly it becomes 2592 X 1952 = 5,059,584 pixels.
