Help htc desire cannot connect to pc

I have this weird thing happening with my htc hd desire for over 6 months now, when I connect my phone to pc, the small pop up window that should ask me what kind of a connection I want my phone to have with the pc just doesn
 
I've to ask this silly question, sorry ;)
Have you looked in Setting, Connect to PC, Ask me ... is checked?
There you'd also choose as Default connection 'Disk drive'.
