Help HTC Desire CDMA help!

I recently got a HTC Desire from online. I live in Peru so I was searching for GSM because we don't use CDMA down here. When I got the phone, after going through Hell to get it, I found out that there was no SIM slot and it was a CDMA version. The seller marked it as GSM and even wrote it is a GSM phone. I am wondering if there is any possible way that I can use a CDMA phone on a W-CDMA network? It is the closest thing I have down here. It isn't easy to just sell the phone and get a new one for various reasons and I need this phone to work fast.
