Help HTC Desire HD - Any Good

Reading lots of great things about the Desire HD but before I make the same mistake as when I got my Samsung Jet could do with chatting or quizzing someone who actually uses one.

e.g. is it easy to assign ringtones to contacts and different tones for messages.
Can you sync easily from your pc - things like outlook?
If you set something like predictive text on internet or say an alarm ringtone will the damm thing remember it.

Sorry sounds so anal but its the little things that annoy. Any help for a newbie would be appreciated, I'd just rather go Android than A***e

Welcome. Android's good and very configurable. I'm going to move this over to your phone's section so you can meet others who have that phone.

Everyone has their own opinion.

I dont like it, and ill be returning it back to my carrier as soon I can.

I have too many little issues, and they are all building up and getting to me. Its always turning off too. So crap. My apps are always running, evern when I havent opened them, ever, which makes my battery last 3/4 of the day. I turn my ringtone to loud, it stays on low, I turn it low, it stays on high.

And no thats not all the problems, there are probably 5 more.

I would stay away. There havent been any new releases for a few months, so hang out a month or so, someone else will be bringing a new phone out soon.

What you are asking in a forum about this phone is going to give you very mixed answers. Some people love it, others, like Nick19, hate the phone.

Yes to all your questions though.
You can assign ringtones to contact, messages can have their own ringtone but its one ringtone for everyone, it does sync Calendar, contacts, documents, music and more using HTC Sync software. Not sure what you mean about it remembering settings but yes you can set an alarm tone and it will remember it. You can also set different alarm tones for each alarm.

Personally, I'm sat on the fence. The phone has some really annoying bugs (not everyone suffers from all the bugs. I personally have none of Nick's issues, but a whole set of my own), but past the bugs, its a great phone. Fast, large screen, lots of features, great look and feel.

I would never return/sell the HD, but if I could go back in time I would wait for the Incredible S (it is designed for Android 2.3 so hopefully less bugs), but thats a few months wait still.

Cheers for that. Re remembering settings my current phone will for example let you set a ringtone say coundown theme for alarm. the alarm goes off with the prescribed ringtone, then week after you set the alarm and it goes off with default ring - very annoying as never had that on any other phone.
Sorry to bug you though but can I set a ringtone and text message tone for a particular contact as well as a general one - like the idea of the wifes texting coming through with a different tone to everyone elses. I know you can do this with the I phone and hope that the HD will do the same.

I've had the HD since it's uk release and haven't had any of the issues above.
The only thing that annoys me is the battery life, but with a few tweaks, and once you get over the 'new phone' phase, I quite happily get 36/48 hours out of it.

The problem is everyone is going to give you their opinion good or bad, your just going to have to sift through them all.

I also have a Samsung Galaxy S and I think the HD is a better phone, if that's any good.

I do agree, it may be better to wait until the 2nd qtr of 2011, there should be a raft load of new phones on the way with dual core processors etc...

IMHO opinion it depends what you use it for.
I like the big screen on the DHD and now i've installed ArcMedia to cure the sound lag bug, it works pefectly and i can watch two full films and still have battery power to navigate and call home.
Strangely though i tend to use it more as a phone  and unfortunately that's where it falls flat on it's arse. The car functions and hands-free voice dialling are either useless or none existent.

The web browser and integration with the nav and contacts is o.k. and very useful. Never had any browser issues.

E-mail and messaging bugs (not announcing you have any) have been fixed by installing SMS popup from the market which integrates very nicely with SayMyName and announces who's calling or texting.

Shame it takes other software to fix what should work anyway but apparently that's no different to a lot of other smartphones. The big difference with the Android is that everything i've installed has been free. Not so with the Piffle iphone, and certainly not with the W7 things.

I like what it does, i don't like that it doesn't do things it should.
