HTC Desire HD Battery Life??

checked my battery usage & the calender has used 20%.. I have just disabled the weather update in calender to see if that helps. but my battery is easily using 8-10% per hour & that is mainly on standby with no weather updates & facebook email sync every 2 hrs.

any ideas

its facebook, it will sync your facebook stuff to your calender.

hi! yes, it will definitely get you through a normal day and a bit more. you will have to be sensible and not keep 3G and Wifi on all the time. Also, once you get the phone, charge it for 16 hours, then use it till the battery discharges completely and then charge it for another 16 hours. this prolongs the battery life significantly

From what I'm seing, about 50% of all power goes to display, and 50% on everything else. That would mean you can cut consumption somewhat by taking everything else off, but you can't save much without cuting the display usage (thus using the phone less). I've seen people report the device working for fiew days or more without recharging, but their display time is realy low, 2 hours or so. What I'm wondering is what's the uptime if using the device more heavily. For example, I sometimes need to use my phone navigation for a longer time (3-4 hours), make some calls, maybe do some surfing, and all that away from an electrical outlet. From what I'm reading, this phone would fail me miserably in less then 6 hours if I used it this way. Or am I wrong?

Hi all

Have been reading this thread with interest as switched from a Nokia 5800 to a DHD 2 weeks ago. The battery life is concerning me as it was just making it to about 6pm and I was having to bring my charger with me everywhere for "top ups" to make sure I had battery life on car journeys particularly with the weather.

This morning I turned on USB debugging, turned the wifi and 3G off (except when needed when I was out), switched the mobile internet to 3G option only and reduced the screen brightness to 15% (still plenty bright). I have already noticed a significant difference with my battery life with only 30% down which is fantastic compared to normal :)

I'm on 8 and half hours since charge at the moment and my battery is at 90%, Love it.

That's with WiFi, GPS and 3G constanly on.

^With USB debugging on?

You still shouldn't have to turn USB debugging on to get a decent battery life, the average user wouldn't turn it on and complain that the battery sucks.

Yeah USB debugging is on, Also screen brightness is at about 20%, Fact of the matter is, My battery is really good and so is a lot of other peoples, Ever heard the saying "bad news travels fast" thats why there is so many threads about it, There will be a hell of a lot more people in the world using this phone who have no problem with the battery.

^It had no affect on my battery life, my DHD was dropping 2% every 7 hours with USB Debugging on and 2% with it off. It never really made a difference for me.

OK, i just had to register to put my comment in this thread:
I switched to Desire HD from iPhone 3G and I must say, that DHD's battery lasts about the same as iPhone's 3G IF sync won't get stuck.

I had to charge my iPhone everyday (after 12-16h since unplugging) if I had 3G turned on, with few texts and calls everyday + checking mail and listening to music, however when I turned 3G off it would last about 36-48h.

Currently my Desire lasts about 14-16 hours with 3G on, WiFi on when possible, little of music, checking mail, few texts, google talk always connected, syncing everything every 2h.
But one day, when I turned off syncing it lasted about 30h and still had about 30% of juice. I think the problem is with syncing, not because it's taking lots of power but because it can last at least 10-15 minutes at a time because it gets stuck. Cancelling sync and pressing 'sync now' again makes it sync instantly.
I don't know why, but it happens when syncing google contacts or htc stuff. As far as I've seen. If someone will resolve this problem.. there will be no problem with it's battery.

Hi everybody,

I stumbled across some posts on xda developers site and thought to share it with you, regarding the battery life on the DHD.

Right, the first post was to do with calibrating the battery.

The steps to calibrate your battery is by:

a) Charge till full when powered on
b) Power off
c) Charge till full again
d) Boot into recovery wipe stats
e) Boot and continue to use as normal

I know the above method might sound strange, but for many people this has solved the battery problems.

2. UltimateJuice app

Download this app and JuiceDefender (which is a paid app) from the Market. This app will solve the battery problems by managing connectivity and other battery sensitive components.

I downloaded this app and my battery now lasts for over 18 hours on a single charge. I did the calibration method and this too increased my battery life.

This next app was advised by a friend of mine who works for HTC.

3. Fastest Task Killer app by jackso

Download this app from the Android Market, and in the settings, set the auto-kill frequency to 0, this will kill off all the apps running in the background which you don't use. You can tell it to ignore the important applications.

Try doing these methods and see how much the battery life improves. I am very happy with my battery life now as I don't have to worry about charging the phone every 5-6 hours.

...maybe it's a good idea to check the sellers credibility first. a quick browse on their 'negative' feedbacks doesn't look good.:( 42 upset buyers. and made in china?

...but wow, 1600mah? that a lot of juice for my dhd. maybe somebody out there already testing it out, hope a review will be shared soon.:)

42 out of nearly 400,000 lol i think thats good odds mate hahahahahahaha:D

...if you search for 'htc desire hd battery' in alibaba.com, you will find the same photos posted in ebay. in alibaba, it varies from 1300-1600mah. it sells for $1-$2 per 100pcs or more. the 'made in china' clearly stamped on the battery... remember the 16-32gb fake memory cards that came out? they were all made in china. ebay sold lots of them, amazon wasn't spared either. nobody saw it coming, even the companies who use these cards on their products. those who bought them filed complaints after realizing the defects, some got refunded, some never did.

...no offence intended and its just my opinion, others may not agree. but i believe however small the negative feedbacks are, it's still plays an important factor in considering the credibility of the seller. it makes us think twice. we cannot trust pictures or whatever sellers are posting nowadays, especially on electronic products...cheers!:)

Ok today I have used my phone a fair bit, I have my hotmail e-mail set to a 4hour push all day long, wi-fi off with a button on home screen for when I want it, same for bluetooth, brighness on auto, 3G on, flippy clock with weather on home page weather updating every hour.
Made some calls today, surfed the web a fair bit sent a few texts and read a few emails.

Battery is now at 22% after 14h 32m
usage
display 57%
voice calls 15%
cell standby 8%
phone idle 7%
android system 4%
internet 3%

Battery was going flat very fast with e-mail push set to 15mins during peak times but ok now I can live with this, one charge a day is fine :D

P.S. I have v2.2 but no idea if this is the very latest version of the software can someone shed some light on what i'm looking for please, phone is unlocked but using an orange sim.

Hi, I guess those saying the battery performance of the HTC Desire HD is poor is right. I've just bought it to replace my HTC HD2 and now starting to realise it main weakness. The battery does'nt last long enough for daily usage.

I have just rang HTC after getting an email reply, basically on my phone I have been struggling to get 12hrs out of 1 charge, that is with screen dimmed, sync etc set for at best every 4 hrs or more.

Basically HTC read through my email complaint & then said that the battery was faulty, they recommended I contact 3 for a replacement battery as it was probably quicker, but did say that if I got no joy then to call them back & they'd arrange a replacement.

I have arranged a new battery through 3 , but whilst talking to them they said it could be harming the battery if left on charge overnight & they recommend 3-4hrs charge until full is the best practice.

Anyway I know it might not be right but I'm going to contact HTC again & get a spare replacement through them as well.

With 2.2 I was having to charge up to twice a day! Even leaving it idle overnight was draining up to 70% and I was watching the running apps and processes.

After the 2.2.1 update it's fantastic!!
Could probably go more than a day with regular use including video playback (40min .avi shows).
