Help HTC Desire HD gps problems

I found that having a case on my HD virtually eliminated GPS signals. Removed the case, GPS excellent. I have not tried other cases (mine was a Speck); another option might be to cut a window in the case to expose the GPS antenna (where the LED flash is for the camera).

GPS is quite poor on the DHD, it's been suggested that some of the older models have a hardware fault. Also, what's your software version? There's a vodafone branded version out there with issues, but it should have recently been patched.

Yes I know all about this! I had this problem with Vodafone as mine was branded. This firmware has been patched as El Presidente has said but if your on Vodafone this will be the cause for sure if your GPS stops working. It caused outrage on the Vodafone eforums! Tbh this cock up made me go ahead and root my DHD and all the help I needed was on here!;)

For my DHD, the problem was the Speck CandyShell case. I discovered that if I peeled off the inner rubber from the hard external shell of the CandyShell over the GPS antenna panel (LED flash panel) that my GPS worked almost a well as with the case off. I used an Xacto knife to peel off the rubber -- not an easy task, but hardly brain surgery.
