ive got software 2.2
and the phone is unlocked .
someone mentioned visionery but cant get it to work any help much appreciated.
im not too thick lol i rooted the hero with a gold card when locked to three.
also my phone is uk think its classed as gsm

i downloaded the apk and put it on my sd card, then downloaded a filemanager and clicked on the apk , but it wouldnt install ??

finaly got vision to work, but when i did temp root it just hung on the yellow triangle tried about four times without luck

It's not that your phone can't be rooted once you update it, but 2.2.1 isn't vulnerable to the same rooting methods 2.2 was. So rather than come up with a new rooting method, people just downgrade to the old firmware.

You just need the RUU for the old firmware and to turn your sdcard into a goldcard, which tricks the RUU into installing older firmware.

Also you can't add a url to your C drive on the forums :P

I'm not a forum noob, just an android noob. I have no idea where that [IMG ] came from! haha

Is there a preferred how-to for doing the things you mentioned? I'm in Iraq right now, and i'm afraid I will brick the phone so I want to do it right.

Also would you know if a ROM made for north america would work the same on a GSM worldphone?

Thanks :)

You'd need to make a goldcard, which is essentially just your sdcard with a few modified lines of code at the start, that tricks the RUU and allows you to install both old and incorrectly branded firmware.

Then you install the rootable generic world wide firmware, which as long as your phone is GSM should work fine with anything. (I'm not aware of any exceptions to that rule, but I should add that I've owned my DHD less than 24 hours :p).

Then you can root and even switch to custom firmware if you want.

I'm sure there are guides available for the ptocess of downgrading, but like I said, I'm new to this phone. (It just so happens my previous phone worked in much the same way).

That should be rootable then I think. Random guess but, did you have USB debugging enabled? That's usually necessary for these things.

I downloaded visionary right from modaco's own website and the HD is supported on that version. You can also find automated tools for both kinds of S OFF on XDA.

Guys,

The problem will be the software version you are running go to settings>about phone>Software information if the software number is NOT 1.32.405.6 then Visionary will not work.

Chances are you may have 1.72XX software in which case you need to downgrade to 1.32.XX
