HTC Desire HD screen brightness

I'm an HTC Hero (T-mobile G2 Touch UK) user, and my wife has just upgraded from the old T-Mobile G1 to an HTC Desire HD. With the backlight turned off on both phones, the Desire's screen is much darker compared to my phone's display. Is this normal? I thought the screens on the more modern phones were supposed to be brighter/better or is this the penance you pay for a bigger and higher res screen? (I assume the Desire HD is still an LCD display rather than AMOLED?)

Yup got it in one, LCD display.
;) The screen does the job though.

I'm assuming that my old, smaller and lower spec Hero/G2 Touch running 2.1 also uses an LCD screen. It just surprised me that with the backlight off, the Desire HD screen was so much darker than my handset.

You can turn the backlight off?, fill me in!

And yeah im pretty certain the Hero was a LCD too.

Using the Android 'Power Control' widget on the desktop. The backlight is the fifth and final button on the right - unless you want to call it 'brightness' instead!
