Help HTC Desire HD - Softbrick

PixelTurtle

Lurker
I'm not sure if this area is used anymore, but I need help.

I got a HTC desire HD for my birthday a couple of days ago. It was a AU Vodafone Rom, and as I didn't like the general design of the OS anyway I decided to try put a new ROM on. It is softbricked. I can still get to Bootloader, Fastboot and Recovery.

So, I-

-Have HTCDev unlocked it
-Have not rooted it (I don't think, anyway)
-Still S-On.
-Recovery is 4ext Recovery Touch.
-I have no gold card.

I've tried to load on a ROM but it does not work. I do not know how to fix.
If you need any extra info I can probably get it.

Welcome to the forum :)

This is actually in the wrong area, as you have a Desire HD rather than a Desire. I've asked one of the moderators to move it.

Meanwhile, it would help to know what ROM you used and what the problem actually is, i.e. what happens when you try to reboot? It sounds like everything except the ROM is working, so it could be something as trivial as forgetting to do a factory reset, but hard to say without more information. Or it could be the ROM isn't right in some way.

Did you take a backup from recovery before flashing the ROM? If so, restore that and the phone will work again. If not, make sure you do next time ;).

I don't know the DHD very well, so don't recall whether it's one of the devices where you need to flash the kernel (boot.img)separately after the ROM if you are S-On. Check the instructions in the thread for the ROM you used.

All else fails, try another ROM.

Hopefully someone in the DHD forum will be able to give more specific advice.

Okay, I've tried to install another rom, however it still doesn't continue past the HTC screen...
I didn't make a recovery.
The original RUU (if that is the correct term) was the AU Vodafone version.

RUU is an official utility to reflash the phone with stock software.

You've not said what custom ROMs you've tried. Would help to know exactly what you do when you try to install them too.

Okay, so I just tried to put on "Sabsa Bliss" onto my phone. I go into 4ext and factory reset, delete caches and system and then install from sdcard, go through the installation process then reboot.

Thanks. At first glance it doesn't seem to have any special requirements, but will have a longer look when I get a chance (arriving at work now).

There was one person posting near the end of the thread that it didn't work for them, but no reason was found. Worked for others. Did you use any of the options in the install script? May be worth trying just with defaults if you did.

The phone is certainly fixable, the question is just why the ROM isn't working.

Thanks slug
I know I messed up the rom at one point, I followed a wrong guide and injected using fast boot a boot.img.
After that everything screwed up.

I don't care if I end up with any sort of custom rom or the official rom at this point in time, although it'd be great for it to be rooted...

I DID IT! I think. I replaced the boot.img through fastboot with the one from the ROM I am using.

Sorry for wasting your time and thanks for helping :)
Noob mistake, I don't think I'll mess with roms on it again...
