Root htc desire help

Hi
I have a HTC desire and I am trying to root it. I tried to root it a long time ago but I stuffed up. I think it was unrevoked but I'm not sure. The first step was to disable it being able to connect to the computer but then the next step wouldn't work so I just gave up . I have decided to have another go at rooting but it won't connect to the computer. It will charges when I plug it in, also my headphones don't work. It says they're connected but no sound will come out. Thanks for any help given

have you read the various guides that are on this forum so some form of direction....
The best advice i can give is read the guides which have a step by step method to rooting by using both unrevoked and revolutionary.
Have a bit of a search and see what you can find.
The first step you need to complete is setting up the correct drivers which does require you to download HTC sync and then uninstall the program but not the drivers.

The remaining steps are all in the guides.

Yes another vote for SURoots guide. That's how I rooted my Desire.

1. Use unrevoked to root
2. S-Off using revolutionary if so you like
3. Flash any recovery, ROM

I installed HTC Sync but it still wont connect to the computer. it will only charge. Ive gone to settings, Connect to PC, enabled ask me and tried all the connection types but it still wont work
