Root HTC Desire HELP!

Go to revolutionary.io and download linux rather than windows version. I don't know whether the same beta key will work or whether you will need to do that again.

I'd suggested the virtual machine on the assumption that you only had Windows. Since you have an ubuntu installation that's even better. Just boot into ubuntu, download the Linux version and run that, and don't worry about the VM.

A virtual machine is a simulated computer. On my laptop I have an app called VirtualBox (free) which allows me to run various different operating systems as apps - opens a large app window within which I have a full linux desktop environment.

Well I've never had a stability problem with VirtualBox, and I'm not a big enough VM user to justify the cost of Parallels or VMWare fusion (VMWare player being Windows only IIRC).
