HTC Desire - Latest Android Version? On O2 UK?

Did HTC ever make 2.3 available for the Desire?

Did O2 UK ever pass this on to their customers?

Reason I ask is that my mum has a Desire and it says it's 2.29 (can't remember the next bit sorry and currently not able to access it) and no updates available - could have sworn HTC releasing updates since then.

Had some horrible trouble after rooting it once before and it had to be warranty repaired by HTC - although the rooting may have had nothing to do with the fault, I'm adverse to trying it again!

No network has ever released 2.3 as an Over The Air update. It was only ever (somewhat reluctantly) made available via the HTCDev website, and isn't even there still (though you can still find it at shipped-roms.com).

If you want to do the 2.3 update it requires downloading the package and running a program on a PC, with the phone connected by usb. It will remove all O2 branding and apps, but will also do a factory reset of the phone, so all user data that are not backed-up will be lost.

I'm sure that there won't be any significant official updates for the Desire from now on.

The HTC dev release of 2.3 is HTC branded though, so uses Sense and still comes with some HTC bloat. It's not vanilla Gingerbread.

Thanks, think I'll leave it then, unless there are any particularly worthwhile reasons to upgrade from 2.29 to 2.3?
