HTC Desire LED Flash and Camera Problem

I've just recently purchased my HTC Desire awhile ago and it was doing all fine and dandy but when I turned off the lights in my room and took a shot of an object using the phone's flash it was just dark, I don't get it, should I have my phone replaced is there something wrong with its hardware? :confused:
 
I did it again and again in dim light and in a dark room and I was very close to the objects and still the photos were very dark if not totally dark at all.
 
Play with the camera settings, if it takes photos ok in daylight and the flash works then it's likely something in the settings rather than a fault with the phone.

Does the flashlight work on it? the non camera one?
They seem to have a very good customer service and get back to you very quickly. Hope they get it sorted for you
