Help HTC Desire Modding

Hi guys noobie here so take it easy please

I have a HTC Desire and ive got an extended Battery and Ive got a high speed micro sd on order and i run a different home screen (cant remember what its called). I have not rooted my phone (would like to but need the warranty).
My question is, a part from rooting what are some other mods i can do to my phone? They don't have to be physical just whatever you guys can think of...

Oh and could someone link me to a working current edition of swype??

If you don't want to root, then you can still customize your phone by simply installing different widgets and launchers.
