Help HTC Desire proximity sensor problem

Hi, ok so i cracked the digitizer on my desire had it replaced by a local shop but when i received it back there seems to be a problem with the proximity sensor.
when i make or receive a call the screen goes black and the screen and buttons lose all function, i cannot hang up. the only way it comes back is if the caller hangs up or i pull the battery out.
i tried pressing all of the buttons but nothing works until the caller hangs up.

i sent it back to the shop and they sent it to they're head office to sort out but they said they have tried everything replaced all parts one by one they also said they have a samsung galaxy which does the same but they cant fix that either.

just a thought but can you get different digitizer screens for the desire. reason i ask is on the old screen i seem to remember one blue circle in the top left of the screen which is for the proximity sensor now im not 100% on this but this is what i seem to remember.
on the new screen there are 2 smaller circles.

is there a app to disable the proximity sensor?
or can i manually disable it by taking it out altogether?

Thanks

If it was working before you took it to the shop to be repaired I'd ask them to replace the phone with one that works as it should. If they don't I'd be speaking to the local Citizens Advice or Trading Standards.
