htc desire should i upgrade to 2.3 gingerbread

Hi have had my htc desire for a while now and uprgraded to 2.2 now the gingerbread thing is out , whats the advantages of upgrading rom to that and what benefits do i get from rooting the phone (lol minds outtta the gutter ), and what happens if i dont work how would i get the phone back to origanial rom , as its a telstra ph and if i fook it up its gonna be a greater cost to get fixed , so any ideas

Have a look at the sticky post at the top of the root subforum - it has links to a set of FAQs, which you should read until they start to make sense . Most of your questions (including "how do I undo it?") are answered in there.

The benefits of 2.3 vs 2.2 won't be discussed there, but that's a much smaller thing than other differences. More app storage is the commonest reason.
