Help HTC Desire/sync problem contacts

I work with Outlook on my home PC.

Downloaded HTC sync and it seemed to work OK until I tidied up my Contacts within Outlook. Now Contacts on my Desire have been scrambled (only some downloaded - in fact it looks like pretty much all the contacts that I tidied up are not syncing). HTC sync comes up with "UNknown Error"

Everything else seems to be syncing OK (ie calendar and music) but not photos.

Also with Calendar, it will pick up my outlook calendar but if there is a deleted occurrence out of a series it downloads the deleted item which could be potentially confusing!

Any ideas?

If you ever synced with Gmail, then it might be that your contacts are all in your gmail account. It may have done this without you knowing, so it's worth checking. Gmail has a restore contacts that may be useful if you've lost anything.

Not sure why Outlook and HTC sync screwed up though.
