Help HTC Desire, which screen LCD do i need.

Lurker
Hi all, i have bought a Desire were the screen does not work but everything else does ie, menu buttons light up when switched on vibrates and also connects to a pc.

I have taken it apart and there is a new screen fitted so after a bit of goggling it appears there is to different types of screen for it ( the one in it now is Samsung).

So could someone confirm that it is the wrong screen and i need the Sony instead. Or suggest a problem somewhere else.

On the back of the phone the:

S/N SH09KPL07220
P/N 99HKZ009-00

Many thanks.

It's interesting that you assume it's the wrong part, rather than some other problem (e.g. in the assembly).

I think you might be right though. To be sure you should check with HTC, but I've found some old posts in different places on the web that seem to suggest that "SH09" would mean that it should be an S-LCD screen - if, as claimed, the 2 digits = month of manufacture that is certainly true, because they stopped making AMOLED Desires in about May 2010. IIRC SONY made the LCDs for later Desires, whereas the AMOLED screens in early ones would have come from Samsung.

So ideally you'd want a more definitive reference than me before laying out money for a new part, and so I'd recommend speaking to HTC support. But I believe that your theory is correct.

I don't think the P/N helps much, as that is the same as mine (AMOLED), and also the same as other people who seemed certain they had LCD. But the serial number should be definite.

Thanks for reply, i agree it could be something else but i only draw this conclusion because everything else works on the phone and like you after a bit of research it as been suggested that it might in deed have the wrong screen fitted. I phoned HTC support this morning and they where more interested in me sending the phone to them i explained that it was out of warranty and it was a second hand phone and i only wanted to know the part number for the LCD but they where adamant on sending the phone to them so they where no help at all.

No, that's pretty useless. :(

Well I've not found anything that contradicts the statement that SH09 would be LCD, and I'm pretty certain that Samsung would mean AMOLED. So I suspect that it was replaced by someone who didn't know enough about the Desire to know to watch out for this.

For the sake of twenty pound i will take a punt on the Sony LCD and report back in the week .

Thanks for your input.
