HTC DROID Eris OS 2.1v3 download

interesting. I was under the impression those of us running 2.1v3 would not get the OTA since verizon would see we are already on 2.1.

Was it a force OTA, or one you could ignore.

I am going to be installing the v4 hack, basically to make 2.1v3 root.

I received the update today. I'm looking at is as forced for 2 reasons. First, the email I got said it was mandatory and second, it d/l'd to my phone automatically and then started bugging me every 5-10 minutes to install it.
On a good note, it installed without problem. I didn't lose any contacts, any programs, anything. My phone was setup exactly as it had been before the installation.

Do you really mean 1.46?

Something is odd about that if that is really what you have.

A couple of months ago, every one of the methods for getting 2.1 onto your phone involved replacing the hboot (bootloader). 3 out of 4 methods were "leak" methods, where you would have ended up with a 1.49.0000 S-ON hboot, and the 4th method, which was the rooting method, you would have ended up with 1.49.2000 S-OFF hboot.

If you install this particular leak - leak V3, you will be able to get the (July 2010) 2.1+ OTA update which is currently being pushed by VZW.

You didn't say whether you wanted root or not, but it sort of doesn't matter any longer - there is an easy root method which will allow you to root a leak-V3 phone now, and apparently even phones which get the new (7/2010) OTA update.

Note that this (leak V3) install performs a wipe of the phone - so back up whatever you deem appropriate before you do it. (Your SD card will be untouched).

what back up program should I use to go form v2 to v3?

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

The reason that I ask is that the update link that you posted is for an OTA update from the last Eris Cupcake release (1.5) to the first 2.1HTC/VZW release for the Eris. All OTAs for the Eris were PATCH updates, not fresh installations - so they are locked to specific starting configurations. There is simply no chance that what you were attempting would ever work.

You should check to see if there is a custom recovery already installed; if that is the case, and your desire is to reset the phone back to a factory configuration, look in to the (XDA) ROM "FlashBack21"
