HTC Droid Eris vs. Nexus One

So I've heard good things about the Nexus One and I'm considering buying one when it's availabe on Verizon. Anyone have any advice as to why I should or shouldn't keep the Droid Eris? Right now the lag time is really what's bugging me. Plus, I'd like to a have a screen with higher resolution, which apparently the nexus one has.
 
If you like the sense ui or want a smaller form factor then keep the Eris. If you want a bigger screen, faster CPU or vanilla android phone then get the Nexus.
I think you have already made your choice though.

its been rooted so it can get sense.
im personally hoping for $179 :)
its also been rumored to be released 3/23!
 
I would get the N1.

I would have problems with the N1 because the lack of send and end buttons.
 
The only other issue is that you will not be buying from Verizon, so there will be no centralized location for support. Service issues you call Verizon, handset issues you call HTC. If you have a hardware issue it will not do you any good to go to your nearest Verizon Wireless store to get it fixed, or to get a replacement.

That wouldn't bother me much, but it is something to consider.

And, of course, we have no idea about pricing, and what existing customers would pay for a subsidized Nexus One.

i am not trying to deal with manufacturer support for my phone!

I believe this is what the current T-Mobil N1 Owners have to deal with, so it is probably assumed that the same will happen when it comes to Verizon.

Not sure though

t-mobil has had this situation before.

there is no reason to think verizon would do that.

to be on big red means in house customer service. I expect this.
 
The Nexus One is what the Droid Eris should of been. The only think I dislike about the Nexus One is that there is no physical call/end buttons.

Really? Should have been? If it "should" have been the Nexus One, we'd all have to be paying way more for the phone. HTC made the Eris exactly as they wanted: an excellent phone at an unbeatable price.

Yes, it "should" have been the Nexus One. But I do agree that the Droid Eris is an excellent phone at an unbeatable price.
 
^No, it should not have been the Nexus One. That's like saying the Hyundai Sonata should have been the BMW 3 series. Different products at different price points for different consumers.

so the droid eris should have been the nexus one that came out 2 months earlier than google planned:rolleyes: i doubt it
 
Ok, let me rephrase this. The Nexus One is what I wanted in my Droid Eris, but for the price, the Droid Eris is a great phone.
 
If I had a choice between an Eris and a Nexus, obviously I'd buy the Nexus. However, I already bought my Eris when I renewed my contract, so in order to get a Nexus I would have to pay full price, so I'll live with my Eris. When the Nexus comes out on Verizon, the next best thing will always be right around the corner - it always will be, that's just how it works. Buy the best phone you can that you like the most at the time, and live with it for a while.

That's sort of how I feel. I'll be eagerly looking at the N1 when it comes out on VZW, but if it ends up not being financially justifiable for me, I'll still be very happy with the Eris.

They're both great. Bottom line: HTC's industrial design rules!
 
It's too bad that Motorola doesn't sell a version of their phone without the stupid keyboard. I guess that would be comparable to the N1?

OK, that makes sense. I get the personal preference part of it because I wouldn't mind having a N1 myself. But I am certainly happy with my Eris.
 
There is simply no reason to get the Eris now that we have Nexus One coming to all carriers and various superior phones coming in the spring. The Nexus One is 3 -4 times faster while the Eris suffers from lag and often frustrating to use because of how slow it is.

You have to understand that the Eris is almost 3 years old. I say 3 years old because the obsolete ARM 11 CPU it uses is so old and slow since its been around for so many years.

Also the Eris is so slow that memory reallocation even slows the phone down more unless you constantly kill apps to free up memory or use a task killer apps.

The Eris really is more of a hassle than its worth just because the delays and slow performance it provides. Try an iphone or a Nexus One and then go back to and Eris....you will throw the Eris against a wall. It really is a completely outdated phone. Yes I own the Eris and will give it away for free once the Nexus One comes to Verizon.

Actually, my Droid Eris is as fast as my dad's iPhone 3G. I don't constantly kill apps and my Droid Eris is lag free.

I am more than happy with my Eris, and I came to it from a Nexus One, as I indicated in one of my very first posts here.

The biggest problem was not the N1 itself, but T-Mobile, which I only learned had horrid coverage in my area after making the purchase (very, very poor research on my part).

But there were problems with the N1 itself; sluggish after a few hours use in wifi mode.. dropped wifi connection often, and other phones in this same area using the same wifi had good strong signal the whole while.. what I call "wiggy" software: sometimes a light touch on the screen worked and sometimes repeated hard touches is what it took to invoke an app or link in the browser.

Pretty phone, though. ;)

Meanwhile, my Eris, on Verizon, is superb in all departments as compared to the N1 I had. Very glad I made the switch and got the refund.
 
It seems you guys have not used an IPhone or Nexus One. Im being very serious. Every aspect of the Eris has a delay and lag, some aspects more than others but it is there. My Eris can NOT keep up with me. My mind works very fast and having to wait even ONE second for menus to come up is unacceptable to me. These delays and lags are present on every aspect of the phone. Some people dont realize it because they seem not to mind having to wait 1 or 2 second for menus to load.

HTC MP3 player widget lags when switching songs. You can press the Next button a few times in a row but it will only move one songs beause it cant process the commands fast enough....simple to change a song there is so much lag.....its really amazing how slow it is. I cant wait for Nexus One on verizon.
